Even though this program has just begun, I am beginning to appreciate the dedication and willingness to instill the fundamental concepts to effectively lead. The orientation last week was a very insightful and eye-opening experience that allowed me to ultimately understand the amount of invaluable skills that are needed to accomplish a single task. For example, one of the tasks was to uncover the exact path to walk from one side to the other without setting off any hypothetical bombs. In that one task, it was important for everyone to exude patience and the willingness to hear a variety of opinions on the right course of action. The first chapter, which outlined his thirteen rules to being a great leader, was very moving because of the examples and analogies that he used to explain his position. In my opinion, the section that elaborates on sharing credit is an important skill to acquire because it is often hard to humble yourself and realize the others that helped aid in the attainment of your accomplishments. Another great lesson He expressed is to always be conscious of who is watching when you are not aware. This saying is very familiar to me because my father always told my brothers and I this multiple times throughout our childhood. This life lesson is critical because you can act accordingly ninety-nine percent of the time and have a lapse in judgement when it matters most. Lastly, the chapters that expound upon mutual respect and the fact that we learn first from our surrounds as a child we’re very enlightening because it reminded me of the morals that were instilled within me by my parents. Furthermore, it is important to me to note that how you treat others with set the mentality for how they execute the tasks at hand. This speaks volumes to the reason why a lot of the successful leaders in the world are admired by their employees and board of directors.
