“When you’re on a site like Facebook, you get lots of posts about what people are doing. That sets up social comparison,” states John Jonides from “Facebook Makes Us Sadder and Less Satisfied.” Social media and the internet are bad for people, especially teens, because it makes them feel left out. It also makes them want to multitask and mess up on their work, and their social skills suffer. One reason why social media is imperfect is because it makes users feel left out, which causes them to be feeling down. In the article, “No, Kids Can’t Study While They’re Texting,” Jenny Awford quotes a student that states that “Media multitasking is a huge part of young people’s lives, So we may be able to cope with switching between tasks better… But still most people still work at their best while focusing on one thing.” The students’ point is that multitasking is a big part of teens’ lives. But most could only switch between work and electronics, they can not do both at the same time. In “Most Teens Think They Can Multitask While Getting Screen Time. They Can’t,” James Steyer states that “They’re supposed to be reading Shakespeare, but they’re texting their friends,” In other words, Steyer believes that teens procrastinate and get distracted with their social media and do not get their homework done …show more content…

In “Teen Texting Soars; Will Social Skills Suffer?,” Jennifer Ludden quotes a teacher, Nini Halkett, stating that “The bad spelling and writing that seems to worsen as texting become more widespread.” In other words, Halkett is saying that because teens shorten words in text, their spelling in real life suffers. The same teacher says; “They can get up the courage to ask you for a deadline extension… But they won’t come and speak to you face-to-face about it.” Basically, Halkett is saying that teens are confident online but once they are face-to-face with someone, they get shy and awkward.
