The Brave Brutus
What makes someone a noble person? Throughout history, this has been a prominent question that has been debated from all over the world. Julius Caesar, written by William Shakespeare, is a play about a group of conspirators who create a plot to murder the soon to be king, Julius Caesar. Caesar seems to be a hero in the eyes of the majority of the public, but these men have a different opinion about him. Brutus, one of the main characters of this play, strives to be a noble Roman, while his morals are tested. He has to make a decision about whether or not it is noble to take Caesar’s life. Although Brutus is not exactly a hero, he is definitely a noble person. He is selfless in that he would essentially put his life on the line for Rome, he sacrifices his friendship with Caesar because he thinks it what’s best for the city, and he is up in contemplation of what direction to go in that would lead to the most serenity and the least blood spilled. Some may call him cold-hearted for killing Caesar, whom he declares his dear friend. However, Brutus honestly believes that his actions were best for Rome at the time. This is clear when he makes his speech at Julius Caesar’s funeral. As he talks to the crowd, he answers the big question of why, exactly, he killed who was known [to the audience] to be one of Rome’s most beloved potential rulers. In his response, he claims
