Recommended: Need of censorship
In my humble opinion, I believe censorship is a good thing, but I think there should not be more of it. Firstly, I believe there should not be more censorship because people have the ability to choose what they watch. Whenever a new movie comes out, the movie’s rating is available for the public to know. I believe if one knows the particular rating, it is then his or her own choice to further pursue the film. Also, most movie trailers usually show the sort of action that will take place during the film. If the movie is of a certain genre like action or horror, one should be prepared for a possible violent scene. Because of all the knowledge one can figure out before watching a film, I believe it is his or her own responsibility to decide if …show more content…
Below the rating, it states why the game is rated the way it is. If the container states there is blood, gore, and violence, then the player already has prior knowledge to the type of game it is. If a parent does not want those characteristics exemplified in front of his or her kid, then the parent should not allow the kid to play the game. I also do not believe there should be less censorship because I believe media producers do a good job at rating their media. I believe the public has sufficient knowledge about what they are about to watch. Because of this, I think each person is responsible for what he or she wishes to watch. Thirdly, I believe there should not be more censorship because I believe the media should portray reality versus a pampered story. In some instances, I believe filmmakers need violent scenes to portray how serious an event is. For example, I believe a movie about the Holocaust or a particular war should be portrayed as violently as the event took place. I think the violence is necessary to show people just how serious and horrifying these events were. If the film sugarcoated these historical events, many people would believe it was not as much of a hardship as it
Many Americans love films, the meanings behind those films and the impact some films have on people’s lives. Ever since films were created there have been people and organizations that have tried to censor and block what the public can and cannot see. Even to this day there are certain things that if put on film because of censorship, would never make it to the public. This is very sad. Film is one of this country’s great expressive outlets. Many filmmakers and the people who enjoy what these filmmakers put out are effected by the horrible concept of censorship. When a film is put out to the public it is first reviewed by a movie rating board who then assigns the film a rating to tell people what age groups the film is suitable for and what the film contains. Movie selection for minors should solely be the responsibility of that child’s parent, not some critic that watches films and then makes decisions for other people about who can watch it and who can’t. People just need to start to understand the real meaning of free speech and expression in this country. Too many people are taking it for granted. People who are for the censorship of films may argue that it’s for the good of our children, shielding them from violence and sex, and not exposing them to something that they claim may be mentally harm...
Censorship influences our lives in a wide range of ways, it influences the music we listen to, the films we watch, the books we read, and numerous different parts of our lives. There has been open argumentation throughout the years whether censorship is influential and worth the contention between various points of views which pops up the question of should movies be censored? The answer of many people would be no. However, many standpoints diverge given that censorship improves our reality in the light of the making people more courteous.
Censorship has been a big part of the world’s history and especially America’s history. One of the most quoted amendments to the United States constitution is the first amendment; “Congress shall make no law…abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press ...” This amendment guaranteeing free speech, press, and religion is still heavily debated and contested today. Censorship, as a challenge to free speech and press has been allowed many times and has been heavily debated itself. Many people censor for many different reasons and in many different forms. Censorship itself is not always a bad thing and has in some cases been used for protection of the general population.
In a world in which acts of heinous violence, murder or crude and shocking behavior seem to be a normal occurrence, it may lead one to wonder what has put society onto this slippery slope. How did this type of behavior come to be so acceptable and in some cases glorifiable? A careful study of society may lead to multi media as being the main cause in this changing of ideals. The modern world has become desensitized to the acts shown on television, movies, video games or printed in newspapers and magazines. Censorship must be employed if morals and decency are to be preserved.

Most games today that children play depict some type of violence. However, parents neglect that the games have warnings for violence, language, and even nudity. In my own personal experience, kids will ask for the most trending games at the time and parents will buy the game to satisfy the needs and wants of the children.
The United States Bill of Rights guarantees its citizens the freedom of expression, but how far does that freedom extend? Does the right to express yourself include the right to observe the expressions of others? According to pro-censorship view holders, it does not. But to those who feel strongly against censorship, the freedom of information, or the “right to know,” should be an absolute right granted to the American public. Censoring material is the responsibility of the individual, not the institution itself, and certainly not the job of a separate institution. Also, the definition of what is censor-worthy is by no means clear.
...p; If the government ever did censor violent entertainment who knows where they would stop, or even if they would. Perhaps they would try to censor violent speech or try to censor the speech of those who disagreed with the actions of the government. The simple message is don't promote censorship, because it could easily get out of hand, and as the old saying goes “the road to hell is paved with good intentions”. There are then only two ways to get rid of the violent entertainment in our lives: we could shame those who make the violent movies, television shows, books, and plays, into having a social conscience, making them be less prone to creating violent entertainment; or we could simply solve the problem ourselves, with a push of a button, or the turn of a page.
From the beginning of modern civilization, books have been an important and revolutionary source of human knowledge. Unfortunately, it has become a growing trend to censor books for a variety of reasons. Several of these reasons, which include protecting children and omitting offensive material, are not only arbitrary but are without merit. This is because sheltering children is not beneficial to the children, and also it is impossible to shelter kids without resorting to isolation. Also, it’s not possible to screen out offensive material in books because all material is potentially offensive. The escalating trend of censoring information in books is not only an impossible task, but it contributes to the declination in the population’s intelligence.
The subject of censorship is a very controversial one, especially the banning of books. Many people believe they must protect themselves and others from the "evils" of many classic books and works of art because they can be deemed "indecent" in one way or another. Many believe that this is absurd and censorship in its current form is a violation of our First Amendment right to free speech. Personally, I align myself with the latter, however I do feel there are occasions where censorship is justifiable.
The first reason video games are an issue is that many video games made today possess content that many people would consider to be obscene. The term obscene covers violence, profanity, and sexual images (obviously). Such videogames are usually branded with the M (mature audiences only) rating on the front of the videogame cover. This means that only players seventeen or older should be playing such games. However, many children around the ages of twelve and under are acquiring these video games as gifts or are purchasing the games themselves. Therefore, it can be assumed that the parents are purchasing M-rated games for their children, and that stores are willingly selling these young children M-rated games. As Paul Keegan says, parents are not following these ratings and stores are not enforcing them, thus allowing young children to view content that is considered obscene (6). Thus, if parents understand and follow the various video game rating labels, and if stores enforce the videogame rating system, then young children will not be as easily able to view mature material.
There are many positive effects to censoring violent video games, but one that has the most impact on the whole controversial issue is health. Health is greatly affected when playing indoors. Young children are obligated to go outside and get active with their body, getting in shape, and obtaining the fresh air and sunlight they need. In the article (The Positive and Negative Effects of Video Games) it is stated that the health of those plaing video games can be effected in many ways, “...Obesity, video induced seizures, and postural, muscular and skeletal disorders, such as tendonitis, nerve compressoin.” Having kids go outside (rather than video games) and have them play sports such as basketball, baseball, etc… will help their lungs develop, sames goes for their body structure. This will have a positive impact on their lives and how they grow up. Eyesight is another factor of health that is also affected by being so absorbed into the video games; staring at the screen for hours can lead lead to damage of the pupil and or cornea of the eye. Children’s vision will be lowered to a level where they will either need eyewear or doctor’s medical attention. In conclusion, censoring violent video games will help children with their physical heath by helping them stay in shape with their ow...
Since the foundation of the United States after a harsh split from Britain, almost 200 years later, an issue that could claim the founding grounds for the country is now being challenged by educators, high-ranking officials, and other countries. Though it is being challenged, many libertarians, democrats, and free-speech thinkers hold the claim that censorship violates our so-called unalienable rights, as it has been proven throughout many court cases. Censorship in the United States is detrimental because it has drastically and negatively altered many significant events.
Hence, censorship is essential in society to eliminate discrimination on basis of race and gender, protect children, maintain stability and restore what censor sees as lost moral values. Censorship occurs when expressive materials like books, magazines, movies, videos, music or works of art are restricted to particular audiences based on their age or other characteristics. http://www.ala.org/oif/intellectualfreedeomandcensorship.html) Censorship is not a recent development. It wasn’t imposed properly or there weren’t strict regulations before.
Censorship affects our society in many different ways, it affects the music we listen to, the movies we watch, the books we read, and many other aspects of our everyday lives. Even though many might argue that censorship doesn't really have a place in a society that emphases freedom of speech and the freedom to express oneself, but censorship is an essential and needed part of our growing society, it's needed in the television industry, the Internet, and the music industry. Censorship helps to make our world a better place because it creates a better environment for us to live in.
