In social studies class we watched the movie The Iron Jawed Angels. This movie takes place in the 1900’s and women have decided to go against the law and want to be able to vote like the men. The movie shows that no men are happy about what's going on and clearly think the woman are stupid and not smart to do such a thing. Men believed that women should not have the right to vote and shouldn't get involved with politics. They also thought that the only thing women can and should do is stay at home and do work like for example take care of the kids, cook dinner, clean the house, etc. Lots of women wanted to stand up in what they believe in and many did, but other wish they could they couldn't they had to watch the kids and had husbands that …show more content…

The women would stay there from dusk to dawn every day, every once in awhile they would switch places and go home then return in the morning. They wanted an amendment (19th) to be passed. The pickets and banners that were held outside the gates had quotes from Woodrow Wilson, the women were trying to use his words against him. Also said more of Woodrow Wilson quotes out loud then burned them, the men walking by became angry of the women and attacked them. Woodrow wanted to throw them in jail but need to charge them with something, so they got charged with “obstructing traffic.” After going to court each of the women had to pay a 10 dollar fine or sent to jail for 60 days. They were brave, they picked the 60 days in jail. Last and final example of women stepping up is the hunger strike while they were in jail. The strike was started by one of the most known woman Miss. Alice Paul. After she started it other started to follow her lead into the hunger strike. Woodrow was sick of the women and didn't want this or anything like this to happen again, so he was trying to have Alice places into a mental hospital, but he was not able to do that because of the doctor said there was nothing wrong with her. Also people started to force feed Alice with raw eggs, which made the women stronger and believe in
