The events that caused the government to impose censorship were a death of a political outcast, student protest, military association with the massacre, and with the United States government involvement, the censorship got stricter. Hu Yaobing, the former secretary of the Communist Party of China, was ousted by the party because of his ideologies of liberation and his hopes for China to become a democratic nation. In April 1989, Hu’s death started a student protest in commemoration of his life, this was held in Tiananmen Square, Beijing. The commemoration and protest were set up due to the scholars supporting his dreams and views.
