“Into the Wild” by Jon Krakauer, is a very noteworthy story of a young man, Christopher McCandless, who tragically ventures alone into the wilderness. It should be pointed out that the story is quite original and the main character is full of contradictions. At any rate, it is quite difficult to understand his real motives that influenced his decision to abandon the civilized world and head for the wilderness where he turned to be unable to survive. This is why it is very important to define the major factors that forced the main character to take the fatal decision.

In this respect, it should be said that such authors admired the wild nature and regretted about the distancing of people from nature under the impact of civilization. In addition, Christopher had an example of other young men that acted in the similar way and headed for the wilderness abandoning benefits of the civilization.

In such a context, his decision seems to be quite logical, but, in actuality, there appear some inexplicable contradictions in his motivation. To put it more precisely, in spite of personal qualities of the main character, impact of literature and other people, McCandless still had a family and friends who were really supportive and who liked him a lot.

Nevertheless, he abandons his friends and his family for the sake of his dream or irresistible desire of new impressions and adventures. Such a choice is quite paradoxical.

Nevertheless, in conclusion it is possible to say, that the decision made by the main character is paradoxical only from the point of view of an ordinary, logical person. However, McCandless was not such a kind of person and the decision to go into the wild was quite natural for such an ascetic and impulsive
