Your post resonated with one of the reason I made the decision to return to school, .preventive medicine and wellness and to be able to meet the challenges of “nursing in the future” in education and health. The idea of contributing my years of experience , in a practice that focuses on (the future of nursing) the health of individuals, communities, and defined populations would be fitting. I so agree with your statement regarding being an acute care nurse; It would be nice to be able to make a difference in the lives of patient and their families concerning their health and wellness, before they end up in an ICU bed with body systems
In conclusion, becoming a nurse practitioner would be amazing. All the time and effort would be worth it in the end, being able to help other people would be a tremendous feeling!
My interest in nursing is fairly new; I had not explored the potential that a nursing career can offer. I became familiar with nursing professionally after becoming a Certified Nursing Assistant. While working with patients, side-by-side with nurses I became enamored with the potential of a nursing career. I now have a rewarding career working as a Medical-Surgical nurse on a Medical University Hospital floor that specializes in Transplant, Nephrology and Urology. This lecture was another eye opener, as a personal history of an individual like Trish Hill-Wall is something that I never thought that I would experience. I am in awe of the person that Trish has become with the choices that she has made and followed. It is true that anyone can do what the set themselves a goal of doing. The idea of taking care of someone and providing assistance to a complete stranger is something not many people do. Seeing people at their worst, during a difficult, challenging and frightening moment of their life is not a job many people would take. However, being there for a person at their time of need is what captivates me the most. Nursing, a career I want to pursue and one that is on my to-do list. Being a nurse entails a lot of things; you must be strong, passionate, hardworking, and caring. Becoming a nurse is my ultimate career goal. My courses and experience has empowered, and has reinforced my determination to pursue a career as a nurse. At this point, this writer is slightly unsure of which pathway she may take, once she has completed her studies; the writer is currently contemplating education, health population, or a career as a practitioner. So, this writer had the privilege of interviewing two individuals, one practitioner, and one population health coach. Each gave this writer interesting, sometimes similar, perspectives of being an advanced practice nurse.
What led me to nursing in the beginning was having a passion for people. I love the holistic approach and level of care that nurses bring to the literal bedside table. I knew throughout nursing school that I wanted to advance my education further than bedside nursing. I debated on whether to pursue a master’s degree in nursing and just become a nurse practitioner, but ultimately, I knew I wanted to advance my education even further to help make and promote changes in healthcare. By choosing to become a doctorally prepared nurse practitioner, I hope to change the stigma that is attached with being “just a nurse” and show that nurses play a vital role in redesigning
Nursing has always been a key career in the health care system. Although it is not often focused on media and stories surrounding health care, nursing is a career of great importance. If any patient was asked about their experience at a hospital or a care center, many would mention the capability and care that they received from the nurses. The health care system could not function efficiently, if at all, if nurses were not present to perform their part. Nurses are more than just physicians, support staff.
For instance, all team interactions should focus on how to appropriately support the student in their needs. Thus, it is necessary that teams recognize that the student is a part of a family and that the student’s family plays an important role in the development of the student. As such, the involved professionals should strive to involve the family in team decisions and openly communicate with the student’s family. However, professionals should be mindful of how they present highly specialized information to the student’s family. In addition, professionals may become more unified in the delivery of their services because they are all focused on the student and his or her progress. There is a famous saying that “health is wealth.” I believe that health is of utmost importance when it comes to living a quality life. I have always been stricken by the role that health plays in our lives, thus I have a passion for being a healthcare professional. In order to bring significant changes in the health status of people and promote positive health in the society, I have chosen nursing as a career where I can spread good health through love, care, and support.
