In this week class we discussed how language affects intercultural business communication. We understand the barriers connected with language in different cultures, written and spoken communication. In doing international business, it is crucial that we speak and understand the common language. English is the universal language for business (Chaney & Martin, 2014). Without this shared language people will have difficulties comprehending messages. It is always a fun class discussion whenever we talk about different languages especially when we give funny examples in translating words from other language to English like “Because you are dangerous you must not enter,” “Please do not empty your dog here.” It is a very good reminder that it is important …show more content…

But as a good manager communicate the change event to employees in the right way. Timeline, transparency and engaging with the employees are the key to managing change successfully (Vora, 2013).

Week 5

Week 5 is about Oral and non-verbal communication patterns. Communication is always present in our daily life, it is the process where message are send to get a response. It is transmitted through verbal in the form of written or oral communication and through non-verbal that is subdivided to facial expressions, body movement, eye contact and the like (Yonghou & Chen, 2015).

In the class we were given a chance to discuss how our thoughts are influences by different personal assumptions in communication. We understand the role that eye contact, smell, color, touch, and body language play. As well as how accent, tone of voice, mood of the receiver, facial reaction, word used, and perception affects the way we process or evaluate a message. It is amazing to know that communication is channeled through 55% body language, 38% tone of voice and only 7% the actual spoken words.
