The mental health themed movie I choose was Inside Out by Walt Disney Studios Motion Pictures. This 94-minute film introduces the main character and hosts an 11-year-old girl named Riley Anderson. Riley was born and raised in Minnesota and all of her loved ones including her friends resided there even her most beloved sports team hockey. Inside of Riley’s young mind, there are 5 psychological profiles which are Joy, Sadness, Disgust, Fear, and Anger which are broken down in a less complex interpretation of these emotions. In the beginning of the film, Riley’s self-esteem was high as a kite. She was outgoing, athletic, and jokester. All of her emotions begin to appear, for instance, Sadness, Disgust, Anger, and Joy are put to the ultimate test. In other words, every character inside of Riley’s brain is helping her in more ways than one with coping and beginning to mature throughout life. Though this is advertising as children’s movie the theme of it is very intellectual and thought to provoke with numerous amounts of positive messages. This film has a heavy influence on morals and also a theme of sacrifice. Throughout this movie, Riley was not morning over a death but she was grieving due to her family moving from Minnesota to San Francisco. Riley was grieving her old friends, her hockey team and overall just her old life. During the entire 94-minute movie Riley was sinking and fighting to keep her head above overwhelming depression. These sad feelings that seemed to never go away were foreign to her though she attempted to remain enthusiastic.
