Today I had the opportunity to watch The Nutcracker, a Christmas themed ballet choregraphed by George Balanchine and performed by the New York City Ballet. I have watched many other variations of this ballet. But this performance has topped all of them. The Nutcracker is broken up into two acts. The first act involves a Christmas party, Marie getting her beloved nutcracker as a present, and the Nutcracker coming alive to take Marie to a magical land. The second act involves the Sugar Plum Fairy and her subjects entertaining the Nutcracker and Marie. The dancers, music, and the stage props were stunning. I tried my best to only pay attention to the performers on stage, but the music kept capturing my attention. Tchaikovsky’s music throughout
...n maybe could be played by another person in the background, and let Vereen concentrate on his leader role. With more narration in between scenes as well as acts, this will serve as a bridge so the audience can fully understand what is happening. Another element to add is more historical background on Charlemagne. This could have been included in the narration as only a short background was presented. On a brighter note, the costumes reflected the roles of the characters and that the characters connected the story through song; music is incorporated in the performance perfectly, not to mention the humor and comedic relief to some tragic parts. The candor of Pippin’s discovery of what is truly meaningful to his heart is a great ending and gives a warm-fuzzy feeling to the audience. This musical is most worthwhile and contains all the elements of a great production.
There are several events in the play which at one point or the other take a tragic turn which constantly undercut back into the play by speeches. What is set out in the play is a festive mood where people were engaged in activities of ‘Maying’ where people get together to sing and dance in the woods, activities that led to the maids’ belief that the pursuit if true love can be scored only through divination dreams (Barber 18). The fairy’s existence is conceptualized from the act of fusing pageantry together with popular games in a menacing way bring out their actual image of a relaxed
This is the most famous version of the show, and it is performed every single year in New York. The leading roles, Clara and the Nutcracker, or Prince, are performed by children, which is highly unusual. Other important roles include: the Sugar Plum Fairy, Dew Drop, Coffee, Candy Cane, Drosselmeyer, and Drosselmeyer’s Nephew (“The Nutcracker (Balanchine)”). It is the dream of countless dancers to perform in The Nutcracker. The lead roles in ballets need strong technique, which is why it is abnormal for the leads to be danced by children in ballets, such as The
The element that stood out the most to me was how effectively the music and the footwork corresponded. The best examples of this are seen through the dancers solos. Especially Albrecht's solo, his feet glide on the stage at the same tempo as the music. Similarly, Giselle's graceful footwork is truly amazing. I really like the similarities between the choreographed footwork and the music, it makes Giselle seem much more elegant and beautiful. This also seems to make the work look more put together and in sync because the dancers are dancing in harmony with the orchestra. The choreography by itself is amazing. The footwork is rapid and intricate, however, at the same time it is delicate and graceful. The ballerina (Giselle) made it look very easy to do the choreography, when it rea...

Following the first intermission the musicians performed Magnificant by Mohaycn, Ave Maria op 12 by Brahms, Magnificant by Vaughan Williams, and Canticle of Mary by Larson. Nancy Menk was the conductor, Judith Von Houser's voice was the soprano and Mary Nessinger the Mezzo-soprano. The first three sections were settings of the magnificant text all for women's of tremble voices and orchestra. This recital was more dramatic due to the addition of the precussion that added a yelling sound in the end of the last section Canticle of Mary which portrayed Mary's free spirit. Also they played a solovin oboe Manificant by Williams.

It premiered the week before Christmas. The Nutcracker used a variety of instrumentation which includes woodwinds, brass, percussion, and keyboards.
Prior to this class, I did not realize the amount of classical music that has influenced our society. Tchaikovsky compositions are a prime example of how this style of music has essentially become correlated with Christmas and the holiday season. It was surprising how recognizable the music was from this performance, and listing to it throughout the years without knowing the origins. The Pennsylvania Ballet and The Cleveland Orchestra combined to perform The Nutcracker.
The premier of The Rite of Spring, beginning with a bassoon solo but ending with a brawl, is one of the Russian composer, Igor Stravinsky’s most famous works. However, the reception of this composition was one that was fuelled by outrage from the audience watching from the seats of Paris's Théâtre des Champs-Élysées on the 29th of May 1913. Today, however, The Rite of Spring has become one of the most influential compositions, changing the history of the ballet. As the evening of the 29th of May came around, the Théâtre des Champs-Élysées was packed.
'It seems to me, my dear friend, that the music of this ballet will be one of my best creations. The subject is so poetic, so grateful for music, that 1 have worked on it with enthusiasm and written it with the warmth and enthusiasm upon which the worth of a composition always depends." - Tchaikovsky, to Nadia von Meck.
There is no arguing Walt Disney practiced what he preached. In fact, he did what he did so well that people continue to bring others to see what he did to this day, that being Disneyland. First, we’ll start by learning about the background history of Disneyland. Next, we’ll compare Disneyland from when it first started to what it has developed into. And finally, we’ll explore all the eight parks and what they have to offer.
It was Cady Heron who said, “In the real world, Halloween is when kids dress up and beg for candy. But in girl world, Halloween is the one time of year a girl can dress like a total slut and no other girl can say anything about it.” However, as you get older, collegiates, the lines between the “Real World” and “Girl World” become more blurred. There are girls who channel their inner kid every halloween, get dressed up in their scariest costumes, and have a blast doing it. There are also girls who channel their inner sexy, get dressed up in costumes that they wish they could wear all year (because who wouldn’t love to dress up as catwoman everyday?!), and have a blast doing it.

Tchaikovsy is remembered and commemorated for this piece because of its revolutionary disposition. The piece changed what people understood music to be and added a substantial amount of musical details that make Tchaikovsy's work so recognizable and popular with the people which heard it when it was written and even in the world today. The composition has so many little details that make it such an incredible piece of work. For example, The Moscow Ballet says that, "Among other things, the score of The Nutcracker is noted for its use of the celesta, an instrument that the composer had already employed in his much lesser known symphonic ballad, The Voyevoda (premiere 1891). " The celesta appears as a solo instrument in act two, "The Dance of the Sugar Plum Fairy."
