Do you ever find yourself thinking about what the world would be like if there was no government? No rules? Sometimes, when I am just sitting around my mind starts to wonder. I find myself thinking about several different things. When we were assigned to write about something I really had no idea. Then, I was just sitting around (after doing my taxes) and I found myself wondering where exactly does all my money go? This lead me to the topic I am going to tell you about today. I think there should be some major tax reforms in the State of Nebraska. I feel that we are being taxed too much in some ways and not enough in others. I always thought Nebraska was expensive when it came to registering vehicles. However, I didn’t realize there was that big of a difference. Like Clarisse said, “It only cost seventy-five dollars to register my car in Tennessee and over four hundred and fifty when I moved to Nebraska.” According to the Omaha World Herold, “Nebraska is the tenth most expensive state when it comes to owning a vehicle.” Most of the cost comes from taxes and fees. Sales tax and registration fees are a good example. On average a person who has to register a car in Nebraska pays about one-thousand five hundred dollars in fees and sales tax. I am purposing that we do away with sales tax when it comes to buying vehicles that are ten years or older. This way, it would save people buying old cheap cars from having to pay sometimes more than what their car is worth just to register it. I also think that we should only include sales tax on a vehicle the day it is purchased. I don’t think you should have to pay a registration fee plus sales tax the same day. To me, it makes more sense to pay the sales tax the day you buy the vehicle. In some states like Oregon, they don’t even have sales tax. Even though I wish we could eliminate all taxes in Nebraska, I just don’t think that is possible. When I walked across the stage to get my diploma, the term 401k meant absolutely nothing to me. I was more concerned about getting a job than how I was going to retire. When I got hired, I was just happy to have a job with a salary. I was fortunate enough to get a great paying job, but also one that came with benefits. One of those benefits was a 401k plan.
If we are going to be honest, the roadways for the state have NEVER been free. We have paid both state and federal gas tax for decades, now, and we also pay various taxes and licensing fees on our cars and our right to drive which go directly to the highway department in order to maintain the roads. Unfortunately, as we will soon see, the monies raised in this way cannot keep up with the state transportation departments needs, for a variety of reasons.

For example, increasing taxes on gasoline will make people want to drive smaller cars because they are more fuel efficient. In turn, pollution decreases and people carpool more and limit their driving as much as possible. Another example would be the seat belt law. Having a seat belt law helps people avoid more severe injuries due to auto accidents and there is more incentive to drive slowly and more carefully. Despite the intentions, there is a higher number of accidents.

Thanks for commenting. I agree with many of you points, however I do not believe that immigrants are taking the jobs of able Americans. Farm work, gardening, and other labor intensive jobs are not be filled by U.S. citizens (possibly having to do with low wages), so why would it be an issue if these immigrants decided to work in these fields? In addition to this, refugees can create their own businesses, so this doesn’t necessarily take jobs away from American workers. Unfortuanely there are many unemployed Americans, however in many cases, it is a matter of multiple applications and having the right skills. If people are not qualified for the job, then obviously it should be given to someone with the proper credentials. If immigrants have these skills then why wouldn’t a company want to hire them, versus someone who is lacking the specific background and or education?
