Do you ever find yourself thinking about what the world would be like if there was no government? No rules? Sometimes, when I am just sitting around my mind starts to wonder. I find myself thinking about several different things. When we were assigned to write about something I really had no idea. Then, I was just sitting around (after doing my taxes) and I found myself wondering where exactly does all my money go? This lead me to the topic I am going to tell you about today. I think there should be some major tax reforms in the State of Nebraska. I feel that we are being taxed too much in some ways and not enough in others. I always thought Nebraska was expensive when it came to registering vehicles. However, I didn’t realize there was that big of a difference. Like Clarisse said, “It only cost seventy-five dollars to register my car in Tennessee and over four hundred and fifty when I moved to Nebraska.” According to the Omaha World Herold, “Nebraska is the tenth most expensive state when it comes to owning a vehicle.” Most of the cost comes from taxes and fees. Sales tax and registration fees are a good example. On average a person who has to register a car in Nebraska pays about one-thousand five hundred dollars in fees and sales tax. I am purposing that we do away with sales tax when it comes to buying vehicles that are ten years or older. This way, it would save people buying old cheap cars from having to pay sometimes more than what their car is worth just to register it. I also think that we should only include sales tax on a vehicle the day it is purchased. I don’t think you should have to pay a registration fee plus sales tax the same day. To me, it makes more sense to pay the sales tax the day you buy the vehicle. In some states like Oregon, they don’t even have sales tax. Even though I wish we could eliminate all taxes in Nebraska, I just don’t think that is possible. I wish we could eliminate Sales tax too, but with income tax eliminated and Sales tax replacing it, it’s just not
