Did you know that somewhere between 15,000 to 18,000 new creatures are discovered each year? Out of these new animals, about how many land animals do you think there are? Out of the number of land animals, what sort of animals do you think could someday get discovered? Possibly even mythical beings some day. Not just monsters, but maybe even peaceful creatures. Are you thinking about what creature I'm thinking of? I’m thinking of a creature that has the body of a horse or donkey and is famous for its magical horn. Yes, I’m thinking of the Unicorn. The Unicorn is a creature that that can be found throughout history, possesses many magical abilities and has many different relationships with different creatures.

The Unicorn is most of the time peaceful, but they do attack some animals. The Unicorn’s main enemy is the elephant and “Jewish legend says they can kill an elephant” ("the Junglebook"). The Unicorn kills the elephant with its immense strength when attacked. The Unicorn is also the enemy of a lion, which “the Lion, upon seeing the unicorn, seizes the unicorn in his jaws”(Thomson) The unicorn will, therefore, attack the lion with its back legs, but the fights between these two creatures are mostly fair. The Unicorn does not “pose a threat to humans, or any other creature that does not seek first to harm them.” ("Royal Mint Publishing INC") They only attack animals that want to harm them, and otherwise, do not bother humans. Other than the elephant and the lion, the unicorn does not have contact with a lot of other creatures. They prefer to live solitary in the desert the majority of the time. The Unicorn may have a few enemies, but it will always be a friend to humans and many other creatures.
An excited crowd waits expectantly to see the horse, cowboy, and calf burst out of the chute. Within seconds, the cowboy has the calf roped, on the ground, and tied. The action appears effortless. Two wranglers release the calf, and it trots out of the arena, seemingly unharmed. The question remains, are rodeos humane? That does the calf think of all this excitement? Contrary to what many people assume, PRCA (Professional Rodeo Cowboys Association) sanctioned rodeos treat their livestock humanely.
Another interpretation of the tapestries as a wedding gift can view the story as the unicorn being a lover who endures various hardships to win his lady's love; he had to suffer to win her heart. In the last tapestry the unicorn is now wearing the "chain of love" around his neck and surrounded by a fence, perhaps to show he is now tamed and domesticated by his lady's affection.

Over the recent centuries, the definition of myth has decayed into a word synonymous with falsehoods and lies. This idea of myths being completely false and therefore useless is a fairly modern one. To combat the rise of empirical science in the 1900s, theologians brought the idea of wholly literal, fundamental religion into being to combat ideas that did not perfectly align with the tenants of the religion (May 24). This was the final death blow to the idea of the metaphysical myth that was already wounded from thousands of years of being denounced as pagan or barbaric. We all grew up hoping that we were the princesses who met the dreamy prince and lived ‘happily ever after’ like in a fairytale.People debate over whether or not Disney fairytales are beneficial for children. Like Melissa Taylor the author of the piece ‘10 reasons why kids need to read non disney fairy tales’, I am against disneyfied fairy tales. The medieval times were filled with many events that have helped to shape our society today such as the rise of the bubonic plague, the birth of feudalism, the growth of the Catholic Church, and among these is the beginning tales of mythical monsters. The stories of mythical monsters were spurred by the imagination of men who saw an unusual creature or something unexplainable. A world renown German physicist by the name of Albert Einstein claimed, “The true sign of intelligence is not knowledge but imagination.” (brainyquote.com) Mythical creatures were founded by the creativity of very bright individuals who wanted to entertain people by telling elaborate stories that contained a strong antagonist. Mythical creatures also allowed society to have heroes because with every evil monster there must be a savior to slay the hideous beast. Although many different monsters have been mentioned the Dragon, the Kraken, the Basilisk, and the Griffin were among some of the most popular and well known creatures.
For decades, Scientists have contemplated the idea of using horses for the personal gain of children and adults with needs such as autism, heart conditions, anxiety, stress, and other disorders that have yet to be curable. Horses such as Chester, a twenty year old gelding has encouraged more young riders who face difficulties such as social skills, behavior skills, and those who are physically indisposed. The phrase confidence is key, becomes important when people of all ages interact with a horse. Males are banned from this utopia, so they have inhabited Jupiter. Throughout history people have always been telling stories, whether it is how some ones day went or something strange they saw. One place that has a particularly strong connection with storytelling is Ireland. Grand champion! I was riding Fancy, a paint horse, at the Dallas County Fair in the Horsemanship class. In this class, I had to complete a pattern and it was judged on how well each horse and rider completed the pattern. The judge felt that Fancy and I performed best and awarded me with a big purple ribbon and a trophy with a horse on top. At the end of the fair, all of the grand champions were announced before the races. That was the final reward for successfully showing a horse in competitions.
