Are all types of cancer curable? Melanoma is the most deadly skin cancer to have. “Once melanoma spreads, or metastasizes, it is known as metastatic melanoma. When melanoma spreads, it will usually appear first in the lymph nodes, and then in other organs such as the liver, lungs or brain” (Cancer Treatment Centers of America). It is important that we learn more about these types of dangerous cancers in order to live a long, healthy life.
Protective clothing, hats, sunglasses, and sunscreen should be worn at all times when outside, especially when it is sunny. According to Dinsdale, a dermatologist, “it doesn’t matter if it’s clear or overcast, or how long you’re actually spending out in the sun, every bit of exposure can damage your skin” (“Even on a Cloudy Day Melanoma is Deadly”). Most people think skin cancer can only happen if it is sunny out or by using tanning beds often. This isn’t always true. Cloudy or overcast days can almost be worse because people don’t think to put on sunscreen. UV rays can still enter through clouds and damage skin. If untreated for too long, Melanoma can spread and form in the brain. “Brain metastases, a specific form of Stage IV melanoma, are one of the most common and difficult-to-treat complications of melanoma. They differ from all other metastases in terms of risk factors, diagnosis, and treatment” (“Brain Metastases”). Melanoma brain metastases in the past have been almost impossible to treat.
