Rodeo consists of all different kinds of events to choose from, and can be competed in all over the United States, even Canada. These events include bareback riding, saddle bronc riding, team roping, calf roping, steer wrestling, bull riding, and for the girls, barrel racing. This sport is becoming very unique in today’s world. It opens a window to the past, but still provides an exciting atmosphere. Although there is not an official date of when the first rodeo was held, most people believe it was the Prescott Frontier Days. On July 4th, 1888 in Prescott, Arizona the Professional Rodeo Cowboys Association held a competition, called a rodeo. The winner of this cowboy tournament was given a small amount of prize money and a trophy. Admission was charged at the gate to watch the contestants compete in bronc riding, steer roping, and cow horse racing. At the end of the day the first ever professional title was given away (Anderson). The fourth of July is now considered as “Cowboy Christmas” for all rodeo contestants, and is one of the busiest times of the year in the sport. A change was made by the board of directors stating that cowboys competing in the rodeo should be given their fair share of prize money every competition. This proposed law was passed, but contestants were required to pay an entry fee before the rodeo ever since. Eventually extra money was added to the pot at bigger events. Now as much as $1,000,000,000 can up for grabs at a single competition. The amount of money you can win is important because it determines your rank in the world. Whoever has won the most money at the end of a year wins the title for that event
