Rodeo consists of all different kinds of events to choose from, and can be competed in all over the United States, even Canada. These events include bareback riding, saddle bronc riding, team roping, calf roping, steer wrestling, bull riding, and for the girls, barrel racing. This sport is becoming very unique in today’s world. It opens a window to the past, but still provides an exciting atmosphere. Although there is not an official date of when the first rodeo was held, most people believe it was the Prescott Frontier Days. On July 4th, 1888 in Prescott, Arizona the Professional Rodeo Cowboys Association held a competition, called a rodeo. The winner of this cowboy tournament was given a small amount of prize money and a trophy. Admission was charged at the gate to watch the contestants compete in bronc riding, steer roping, and cow horse racing. At the end of the day the first ever professional title was given away (Anderson). The fourth of July is now considered as “Cowboy Christmas” for all rodeo contestants, and is one of the busiest times of the year in the sport. A change was made by the board of directors stating that cowboys competing in the rodeo should be given their fair share of prize money every competition. This proposed law was passed, but contestants were required to pay an entry fee before the rodeo ever since. Eventually extra money was added to the pot at bigger events. Now as much as $1,000,000,000 can up for grabs at a single competition. The amount of money you can win is important because it determines your rank in the world. In the opening scene of Jane Martin’s “Rodeo,” there are many stereotypical props used to portray the beer-drinking, hard-working, cowboy image with the characteristic country music playing as an added touch. Most people are familiar with this type of scene in their minds, with a man as the character, but not this time – we find a tough, smart, opinionated woman with a distinctively country name of Lurlene, and the typical cowboy kind of nickname, Big Eight. The reader will dive deeper into the true character of this unusual woman and realize that she is no different from the average woman in today’s workforce. Indian Horse is a novel by Richard Wagamese that beautifully explores the idea of family, and what it means to have people around you that make you feel at home. The reader is bombarded with an overwhelming sense of family and betrayal in the first few pages of the novel. As Richard Wagamese continues to write, one is able to see how safe Saul Indian Horse felt with his biological family, and he also shows how lost he felt without their love when he was taken to the Residential School. The school he was brought to was drained of all consensual love the moment it was open, and continued to fill the children with horrible feelings the entire time they were there. Rodeo, as a sport, is judged overall through a point system. So even if you don’t win a single event, you can still have enough points to get all around cowgirl if an individual participates and places in all events within a circuit. Since this sport is considered the biggest adrenaline rush for women in rodeo, I would love to participate in a barrel race. I think that the women that compete have a lot of guts to let a horse get at its top speed and still manage to maneuver around three barrels. The amount of athletic ability that is required from the horse is incredible and I give much respect to the women that excel and have the money to invest in such an amazing horse.
It’s 2:00 a.m. Sunday morning. Jake and I are headed down the longest stretch of road in Texas. We have just pulled out of El Paso and are on the way to Fredericksburg to participate in the Frontier Days Rodeo. We were fortunate to have put together a decent run on our last draw and win enough day-money to keep us going for a while. Jake and I are rodeo-bums, to be specific, calf ropers. During, the whole rodeo season I looked forward to going to the State Finals. I didn't attend the finals as a participant, but as a spectator. As President of the "Saddle Bronc Fan Club" for my friend Cole, there was no way I would miss this experience. We both had been looking forward to this day for a long time.
The Flint Hills Rodeo is an important yearly event with roots deeply embedded in Chase County history. It is said that in the 1930s, the children of E.C. Roberts, including Cowgirl Hall of Fame inductee Marjorie Roberts and her brothers, rodeo stars Ken and Gerald, used to "play rodeo" on their ranch using their family's livestock. Gradually, local interest in these impromptu performances grew, and in 1937, Roberts, his son Ken, and his son-in-law Eddie Boysen staged what is widely considered to be the first professional rodeo in Chase County. At that time, no rodeo facilities existed, so Roberts offered the use of the big corral on his ranch located two miles west of Strong City. The event was such a rousing success, the Flint Hills Rodeo Association was formed the following year and plans were made to continue the Flint Hills Rodeo annually ("Flint…Rodeo," 348).

She was in an accident and she thought she was never gonna be able to ride her horses again and not even barrel race. But Snyder never gave up. She knew that if she gave up, she would never be happy again. She didn't not gave up. She helped work with her horses to make it so she could ride again. Grand champion! I was riding Fancy, a paint horse, at the Dallas County Fair in the Horsemanship class. In this class, I had to complete a pattern and it was judged on how well each horse and rider completed the pattern. The judge felt that Fancy and I performed best and awarded me with a big purple ribbon and a trophy with a horse on top. At the end of the fair, all of the grand champions were announced before the races. That was the final reward for successfully showing a horse in competitions.
When I got a Pit Bull, I knew the risks I was taking. These types of dogs seem to be violent and aggressive. People see them as trouble, dangerous, and killers. This is because of the reputation of the Pit Bull and how they are forced to fight each other against their will. Pit Bulls are known to be used for dog fights and people see them only as wild animals rather household pets or part of the family. We should find a way to help change this point of view. This can all be changed by the way one purchases a Pit Bull. Most animal rescues will inspect a person’s household to see if the person qualifies to become an owner of a Pit Bull. This might not be as effective as it was before. Maybe we can increase the security measure. We could do a personal background check included with the house check, or check the neighborhood to see if there are reports of thief in the area.
