In 2012, Malala was just 15, was shot in the head by the Taliban for wanting an education. The Taliban were in control in Swat Valley, Pakistan, where Malala Yousafzai lived. The Taliban restricted women to do things like go to school. She received many threats from them because of the things she was blogging. Malala received the Noble Peace Price in 2014, being the youngest person to receive the award, because of her dedication of wanting everyone to have an education. Malala is a very brave and an inspirational young woman for all the work she has done and does with women’s education rights. Malala’s fight for education started at a young age. She grew up with her father being an owner of school because of that she grew up with a passion for education. The Taliban were in control where she lived. They restricted women to do things that we do in the United States like school. Malala used the internet, using a fake name “Gul Makai”, to show people the life in the Swat Valley under Taliban control. She also talked about how she was unable to go to school (“Malala Yousafzai – Facts”). She also gave a speech in 2008 in Peshawar, Pakistan of her anger on the Taliban attacking girls’ schools. On October 9, 2012, Malala was just 15; she was on her way home on a bus and she was shot by a masked gunman. Malala eventually went to the United Kingdom to have many surgeries to fix the issue. One surgery was to fix the paralyzed part of her face. Luckily, she has no major brain damage (“Malala Yousafzai – Facts”). A great thing about her was that she would not hurt anyone even if they were going to hurt or kill her (Shamsie). Since the Taliban attempted to kill Malala, many people were furious. Millions of people signed a petition for the right of education because of this event
