Can you guess how many people contract a disease in the United States each year? For example, the most common diseases to contract are sexually transmitted diseases. There are many types of sexually transmitted disease but, some you can get rid of and some you cannot. Herpes is one of those sexually transmitted diseases you cannot get rid of. There are many questions to ask if you were to ever get infected with this atrocious disease such as the following: what is herpes, how do you contract herpes, can you get rid of herpes (what are the treatments), how do you even know you have herpes, what if you are pregnant with herpes, and what are the long term effects of herpes?

You can only contract Genital Herpes by having sexual contact with another person who is infected with it. However, if someone were to have a cold sore (herpes complex 1) around or on their mouth and they were to come into sexual contact with you, it could cause you to get Genital Herpes. So having oral sex with someone who has the HSV-1 infection could cause you to get genital herpes. Genital Herpes are more common in women than in men. Approximately one out of four women get Herpes each year, and about one out of eight men get Herpes each year. What if you’re pregnant and you have Herpes?
It is important for you to go to your doctor or prenatal care provider if you have herpes. Tell your doctor your symptoms or if you have been exposed to genital herpes. When delivering your baby you could possible give it herpes even if you don’t have any kind of outbreak. If your doctor knows you have herpes a C-section is usually performed. Sometimes genital herpes can lead to having a miscarriage. Or you can deliver your baby earlier than expected. Herpes can make your child have deathly illnesses and also make its immune system weaker. (Web. 4/21/16.
