The Renaissance was a period of revival of art, literature, and learning in Europe. It is often called the “rebirth” during the course of the 15th and 16th century. This revival started in Italy, then over time, spread throughout Europe. The Renaissance is important because it had a big impact on society by shaping our cultural outlook and developed a new artistic expression in paintings, music, and writing. The Renaissance also turned society to a more humanist view and had advances in scientific research. Without this important movement, our society would differ in having a lack of humanism viewpoints. Leonardo da Vinci was an important and well known person from the Renaissance. He was born on April 15th, 1452 in Vinci Italy. Da Vinci was an artist, mathematician, writer, and inventor during the Renaissance period.He is often described as the “Renaissance man” and being known as one of the greatest painters to have lived. He is mostly known as an artist and is well known for his most famous paintings Mona Lisa and The Last Supper. Da vinci also made discoveries in anatomy and engineering. He is considered to be the greatest writer in the English language and, he wrote 38 plays and 154 sonnets. His plays were mainly comedies and histories but, by the early seventeenth century he began writing tragedy plays. These plays give insight on the darker aspect of human nature and were known as some of his best plays. Some of his most well known plays are Romeo and Juliet and Hamlet.
