Aldeen Adolphus March 2014 Film Film influence on American culture Movies have had an influence on the American culture through the content of various issues. In American movies, the characters take on such issues as social reform, political views, and emotional turmoil. Movies have changed people's attitudes about consuming information. Today, movies quickly give us a visual picture of where and what the characters are doing. Most movies neatly package a story into less than two hours of carefully edited material. Movies have made current generations used to this way of consuming information and can often make reading a book seem to slow for them. This is the reality is that movies have a huge impact on culture. I would say that same for TV programs, books, and any other forms of popular media. As for movies, we can see the impact in several ways. For instance, movies influence fashion. One of the things that I realized is that people's sense of fashion is very much influenced by the movies they watch. A more serious example can be seen during World War II. The war movies that we...
Additionally not only knowing the historical, social, and political background of a film and how the ideas in this film were form, but also how this film affected the society and the point of view of individuals, because after all film is not only affected by the context in which it is created ,but the film also affects individuals are catalyst for change in societies and cultures.

The power of film is immense in modern American culture. The symbols and identity’s created in these films has proven to possess a lasting impact shaping in new cultures. Film has not failed to accomplish this using the motorcycle. Although a controversial image the motorcycle possesses a strong identity of freedom and brotherhood creating an individual counterculture. The freedom represented by the motorcycle contradicts previous connotations and transforms our definition of freedom. The motorcycle also provides a cultural identity of rebellion and brotherhood. Film has contributed greatly to creation of the motorcycle identity and has not failed to capitalize on the power symbolism the motorcycle represents. In many cases film created the motorcycle image we think of today.
There are many movies and television shows that reflect American culture. A show or movie must address some current societal problem or trend in order to truly reflect American life; murder, rape, racism, and, on a less serious note, parties, shopping, and sports are topics that deserve serious consideration by the public and the media. The show Beverly Hills 90210 attempts to be an accurate portrayal of the life of a typical well-off American teenager growing up in the 80's and 90's. The producers of the show attempt to integrate many real life situations in to the show. By doing this they are suggesting to the audience, which happens to be geared toward teenagers and young adults, that what the characters do in the show is the ideal way to deal with these types of situations. Many aspects of American culture are represented on the television show Beverly Hills 90210, or just 90210 as it is commonly referred to. During the first year or so of Beverly Hills 90210 it dealt with the subject of murder/homicide. One of David's best friends was playing with a gun that he had acquired during a summer vacation to the mid-West. The friend shot himself by accident; what followed was a time of mourning for David and a recollection of many fond memories of the times they shared together. This episode's tragedy brought the characters in the show closer together. Many innocent children, and sometimes adults, are killed accidentally playing with guns, or by drive-by shootings. This is a major problem in the United States and the show is trying to get the message out that it is not a safe thing to do. It also raises the question as to why access of guns is so readily available to anyone. Every night on the news, someone can see many incidents in which there are suffering resulting from guns. Furthermore, the availability of guns makes the public scared. Children have images of adults using guns for hunting or game. In the adolescents' mind it appears that guns are not a bad item to own, when in reality guns are extremely dangerous weapons. Beverly Hills 90210 makes a strong attempt to impress upon its viewers that these accidents can be precautions. The show sends a message to the younger generation, which are becoming more and more violent, to stay away from things that result in violence like...
A nation’s culture resides in the hearts and souls of its people. Many countries have been influenced by various things such as immigration, media, news, as well as trends and fads from both in and out of the country. However, in the 1950s and 1960s, there was mainly news and word of mouth. Many had argued that Canada should establish its own culture to have an identity separate, later growing into a concern of the government. Most would think that the cultural influence was negative as the influences of other countries would take away from the country’s own culture and identity, but it was not the case. The influence of American culture in the 1950s and 1960s in Canada was positive. American music, Hippie culture, and the impact the American
Films do and have always reflected society because they show what's important to people. Films demonstrate fads and hot button issues. Film is not only a piece of art but also a tool of social reform as it expresses the feelings of humans and their idea of contemporary society. Films are the mirror that reflect the society. They are controlled by powerful forces that filter information to the public as well as reflect their fears. This has been held true in the film industry for many decades. For example, when society had a fear of widespread crime then there were many films that reflected the police catching the criminals. When society felt that the schools were not educating the children then there were films reflecting inspirational teachers or school administrators who took charge and turned a school around. This has held true for all types of films throughout the decades. Popular science fiction films of the 1950s were no exception and reveal some of the widespread fears of that era.
Popular Culture has changed drastically over the decades with the biggest question being whether or not popular culture is a positive or negative expression of our ideas and reflections. American Pop Culture has an extremely important role that influences the United States and around the world. There are countless topics that make up pop culture and it is nearly impossible to name all of them. Some of the topics are Television, Music, Religion, Politics, Arts, Economy, Education, Family roles and structures. Three of the cultures that I believe has changed the most and seems to cause the most controversy are television, music and religion.
The convergence of media is a great thing if everyone uses it properly, and ethics are employed. People can be anywhere and find out what is going on the world. This ability is especially important in the business world where something affecting another country can also affect your business. Whether people realize it or not, the happenings in another country do directly affect us in the United States. Events around the world affect the value of our dollar, our economy, and the stock market which in turn affects our personal retirements. A person does not want to wait until the 10:00 news to find out that something happened in China, and their stocks are now worthless. They want that information as soon as possible so they can decide to sell it while it still has value, or ride it out and see if it regains value.
Film, as a traditional and beloved media, has been influential on people's life. We spend time in the cinema to be entertained, touched, scared and experience romantic love story and exotic places. As one of the most famous film industry base in the world, Hollywood, produces and sell their movie products all over the world.
Pop art was clearly adopted a lot of the popular imagery of the 60s. The advertisement and mass-media adaptions that were used especially in works by Lichtenstein and Warhol, but also various other pop artists, distinctly show a connection between the lifestyle of the American public and the pop artists.
Since the introduction of Disney films into our society, there has been a sea change
...d the globe. On the other hand, certain movies could be used to bring about social change. Movies that show equality between the sexes, or respect towards gay/lesbian couples could be used to break down social barriers by changing the values of its viewers. Therefore, identifying racism, sexism, classism, and heteronormativity in movies is important in bringing attention to the way in which movies control and affect these values in our society.
How do movies affect our brain? Is the movie culture directing our thoughts in a certain path? Do movies change our behavior? Do movies carry a certain message? Perhaps a warning? These are all questions that we don’t normally give much thought to when we watch a film. However, it is important to employ our critical thinking skills when we analyze a movie we just watched.
These movies are history lessons to the audience since they show something we were not able to witness or take part in. Consider war movies such as “The Tuskegee Airmen and Memphis Belle”. Though not one hundred percent accurate, both depict actual events of historical wars. They are examples of how movies can teach the newer generation about what their distant relatives did for their country. Another type of informative movies describes the cultures and societies around the world. “City of God” is a prime example. These movies show the hardships that people in other countries face in their day-to-day lives. Again, these are just two simple examples of how movies can be learning tools for a mass
Culture, defined as the art and other manifestations of human intellectual achievement regarded collectively. This can be anything from human’s paintings to their photography. Or, it could be their films. The endless movies that come out year after year, some even simple remakes of ones made years ago. But, even if they are simply remakes, we pay to view almost every last one of them. Movies impact everyone. And doing so impacts, what was defined prior, culture. In society today, the movies bombards teens with images and trends. Movies show popular culture; what the trends are, what people should be wearing, what they should be listening to, how they should act, and what they should look like. Pop culture, in turn, defines what one should
