The Industrial Revolution: The Key Component
Was the steam engine a blessing or a curse? As mankind continues searching for a good energy supply, the invention of the steam engine was an important step. Now the steam engine and locomotive revolutionized the planet as it was a part of the industrial revolution. It was the main power supply in the industrial revolution, maximizing production, efficiency, speed, and the animal labor needed. The steam engine particularly had a profound impact in the 1700’s and 1900’s due to its great benefits. It improved transportation greatly, decreased the cost of labor, and boosted employment rates, therefore was a blessing.
The steam engine was a blessing because it had fueled the industrial revolution. It was its main power supply for powering mills and factories of the time. People were able to migrate into cities in the first time in almost all history, people had the capability to to find work in cities fast, instead of working on a farm. Thus it helped create an economic boom for businesses, as it benefited production of societal necessities, and the resources needed for them. This gave a vast amount of opportunity for new employment, which made England more business orientated. New technology is arriving every day. The greatest invention during this time was the steam engine. The creation of the steam engine was credited to James Watt. There had been other steam engines before James Watt’s, but none of them were efficient. Watt’s engine was the first efficient engine that could be used in a factory.
Later there was an inventor who produced the steam engine. This was small but powerful and can be used either on land transportation or in water transportation. With the invention of the steam machine and the invention of the railroads transporting and exchanging goods between cities and even countries were a lot easier and cities and countries received their goods a lot faster. Thomas Savery invented the first steam engine in 1698. People like Thomas Newcome, James Watt, and Richard Arkwright kept improving the machine over many many many years. Arkwright built the first steam-powered textile plant in 1790. The steam engine used steam to power engines and make them run, like in boats and trains. James Watt steam engine became dominant design for modern steam engines. It also helped bring about the Industrial Revolution.

Since the beginning of humankind, there were many events that helped the world, but the most important event of all is the industrial revolution which surely helped influence many countries all over the world, but most specifically Great Britain. The industrial revolution caused major changes in Britain, it helped improve farming and trade. It also helped influence Britain scientists and engineers into building many other machines that helped improve the country by making workers life easier. And even though it did go through some kind of negative effect, by the end the negative obstacles were fixed and Great Britain was 50 years ahead of the rest of the world.
The new invention of steam power was one of the great motives for the beginning of the Industrial Revolution, steam was used to power many of the machines, thus with the invention of steam power, the Industrial Revolution was powered onwards. The duo of inventors, Thomas Savery and Thomas Newcomen were both based in Britain, thus, this was the place where the inventions were first used giving Britain the time advantage over other countries.
The steam engine increased productivity and efficiency by assisting individuals in their tasks with machine powered equipment. The system was then put into place in the majority of industries after seeing the beneficial consequences that came along with it. The changes included the textile industry, the steam powered engines, which helped create steam-powered locomotives and steam boats. Because of this major improvement in the industrial revolution railroads began to sprout and was a more efficient way to transport goods and people across Britain. People needed faster and more reliable means of transporting the large number of products being produced from factories. Wooden sail boats became steam powered boiler ships made out of iron and steel that more effectively and reliably moved goods from one place to another while steam powered trains took the place of horses, carts, and wagons and made land travel swift and safe. Communication improved as well, not just by people being able to travel from one place to the next more quickly. Telegraphs and eventually the telephone and radio resulted in handwritten letters no longer having to survive week long trips, but instead being relayed halfway around the globe in just minutes (Deane 72-74).

As one of the greatest times of production and change in the quality of life for all classes and members of society, the Industrial Revolution marked a turning point for humankind. Together, the industrial revolutions in both America and Britain not only altered the lifestyles of many, but also offered solutions to many questions that had plagued society for numerous years. The need for workers in agriculture decreased due to the advances in technology and tools. A large number of people as well as perspective farmers had to find jobs elsewhere. This is one of the important factors in the shift of the population from rural areas to the more urban cities.
