Joe Kraushaar HIST_304 3-24-16 At one time there were two great cultures who flourished on their own lands running their own civilizations. The Aztecs were a Mesoamerican people of central Mexico. They were a civilization with a rich mythology and cultural heritage. Their capital was Tenochtitlan on the shore of Lake Texcoco, the site of modern day Mexico City. The Inca Empire was the largest empire in pre Columbian America. The administrative, political and military center of the empire was located in Cusco in modern day Peru. The Inca civilization arose from the highlands of Peru. (Fall of the great) Neither of these cultures would last forever when outsiders come to find new land. The Spanish led by Hernan Cortez left Spain with a fleet The Inca Empire fell to Pizarro after it had been weakened by a previous war. Invaders led by the Spanish conquistador Hernan Cortes overthrew the Aztecs by force and captured Tenochtitlan in 1521, bringing an end to Mesoamerica's last great native civilization. (Fall of the Knowing this he put a group of 180 Spanish and African solders together and sailed from Panama to the west coast of South America. They searched through the Andes Mountains for over two years while steeling gold and riches from other Native people they came across. (Fall of the Incas) Once Pizarro arrived the Inca Empire was just ending a civil war between people of the same country. It was a war between two brothers who thought only one should be the ruler, Atahualpa and Huascar. Atahualpa succeeded by killing his brother and becoming emperor. Pizarro had his followers ask the new emperor to give up there Inca religion and accept Christianity and he refused. Pizzarro had Atahualpa captured and imprisoned. Atahualpa offer up most of his gold to be set free, but once Pizarro had his gold he had Atahualpa killed and the Spanish destroyed the Inca civilization and enslaved their people.(Fall of the Incas) Overall the Aztecs and the Incas were unprepared for the invaders from Spain, even though they greatly outnumbered them.
