Improving My Writing Skills

Over the past few weeks, I have learned more about grammar, punctuation, mechanics’, and Transitional words. In addition to these lessons, I have learned about active reading strategies and taking better notes. These have all allowed me to review my writing assignments with a different set of tools to improve my writing skills. This week I have select three documents that I believe demonstrates my growth as a writer.

I reread everything I wrote for English 102 and decide on the reading reflection from week one. Once I began to read it I noticed That I began my sentences very simply. For example, “I” was used at the beginning of almost every sentence. It was at that point that I realized that I learned to start my sentences a little better. Furthermore, I didn’t use a single transitional word or phrase. I wrote how I felt but my vocabulary is limited and it shows. As I progress through the course I read the lessons and textbook to develop better writing technics. Which leads me to my second selection from week 5. It was at that point that I realized that maybe my topic was too broad and I began to have doubts about the upcoming essay. Even though I felt that way I felt good about the memo. After that memo I knew was getting better and on my way to perfection. Until Week 7’s business writing reflection letter. It would seem I had become obsessed with transitional words and made so many grammatical errors. When I took the time to read I realize it was good but I may have needed a few more re-reads.
