The travel style has also changed compared to the past. Due to the technological advancement in transport, today the world are inter-connected. As example that applies in the context of the study, with the development of air travel, more Mauritian can now travel to France with their choice of airlines. With 9254 kilometers distance from Mauritius to France, if there was only boat as transport, the tourist behavior would be a hesitated one. Because the Mauritian tourist would have considered all the time he would have to spend on this boat and the risk pertaining to it in case of a tsunami and cyclone. The concept of motivation has been mainly used in the tourism field as a tool which can affect consumer behavior. Based on the Maslow’s hierarchy, motivation is defined as “the driving foreces that justify the reasons of an individual’s behavior”, (Dann, 1981; Pearce, 1982; Uysal & Hagan, 1993).

Romando (2008) has defined motivation as an “internal drive” that moves behavior to act and gives direction to the behavior. Mauritius being a Tropical Island, during the winter season, there are no snow, therefore a Mauritian Tourist might be motivated by the snowy weather of France. This Motive will influence the Mauritian tourist in his pre decision which will then persuade him into purchasing his holiday to France.
