For the average Filipino person, the sort of haven depicted above has always been within our reach, granting us bliss that most of us barely appreciate.

Commonly known, slum-tourism in Manila highlights things like crime, reclaimed areas filled with garbage, lack of education, and vulnerable children. These circumstances prove that there can still be simplicity and satisfaction in life, however, as demonstrated by how the BASECO kids choose to find contentment and happiness however and wherever they can.
Who would have thought that one of Manila’s biggest slums also has within it innocent and inspiring individuals with big dreams? Within them lies a feeling of freedom, and the great joy they earn from being content with their lives and home.

Deputy Presidential Spokesperson Abigail Valte said in a radio interview that tourist arrivals during the APEC week have reached more than 11,000, exceeding government’s target of 10,000 tourists.
With the robust figure, Valte is confident that total tourist arrivals would set a record high this year after several cities and provinces in the country also hosted other APEC events since January.
As early as December 2014, the APEC 2015 National Organizing Council held meetings in different parts of the country to showcase the Philippines’ tourism destinations.
“It started in December last year and APEC delegates went around our country to see several beautiful places the Philippines can offer,” Valte said.
“They went to Iloilo, Cebu, Tagaytay, Bataan, Boracay, and Bacolod. APEC delegates really had a chance to see the beauty of the Philippines,” she added.
For the APEC 2015 CEO Summit held in Makati City last week, organizers expected only 800 participants but the actual number of delegates swelled to 1,300, Valte
He incorporated views of the experts in the field like the associate professor in urban studies as well as the executive housing director serving Southern California. His strength as a journalist is showcased with the use of amazing storytelling. He presented the unique circumstances of the settlers that ended up in tent cities as opposed to giving generalizations. True to a great mark of responsible journalism is the ability to tell both sides of the story. This was evident in the phrase “if they are neglected, they will be lost to crime, addiction, and illness. Yet whenever officials act to destroy or stifle them with punitive regulations, they not only wipe out the pride of residence struggling to survive. They also jettison a spirit of self-reliance and innovation that could harness to help meet the housing needs of the future”. Furthermore, the readers are not swayed one way or the other towards the governing authority or the problems with unemployment.
Another reason why slum tourism should not be allowed is because the image of the country may be tarnished, and they glamorize poverty. The article “The Pros and Cons of Slum Tourism” by Leyla Giray Alyanak provides many examples of how slum tourism is not good, and should not be allowed. It states that the wealthier population does not agree with slum tourism because it makes the rest of the country look bad. By publicizing slums, people make them seem “exotic”, but may also make the whole country look impoverished.
These planners supported free trade, thinking that if local business was exposed to foreign-made goods, they could incorporate those new ideas into their own goods, increasing their worth. Though originally intending to invite only neighboring countries to this exposition, the plan soon escalated to include the global environment. As organization and sponsorship was planned out, the matter of where to host such a large and ongoing event arose. Ideally, it was to take place in London, to sort of show off the best of the country and impress in-coming visitors. The problem was that London was already built up and filled in, and little open space remained for the needed time period. It was decided soon that a portio...
The community of Bataan has levelled the hospitality of the Filipinos to a higher level. Even though the PRPC no longer serve its initial purpose due to the fact the there are no longer refugees staying, it is hoped that when new refugees seek for help, the Philippine government is ready to support these people just as it did during the Vietnam war. Moving forward, nicknamed as the “Sistine Chapel of the Philippines,” the Betis Church showcases the work of Filipino artists, especially the people of Betis, Pampanga. The ceiling is adorned for its mural, done by Simon Flores.

...hat I can to ensure a bright future for Historic Pilipino Town and the Little Manilas that may appear here and there. Being young and of the “next” generation, I would love to be able to visit this town thirty years from now and tell my children, “I remember the day this whole place was recognized. It’s still as beautiful as ever.”
Even though some old establishments have made way for the new in recent years, the kampong spirit of Tiong Bahru is very much alive. Ng Siew Tock, 90, has lived in the area since 1980 and is optimistic about where the neighbourhood is headed. “[Tiong Bahru] used to be very quiet, but now it is very lively. We need such new blood in the neighbourhood.” The Tiong Bahru of today is quaint and sophisticated;
The Payatas is a Philippine super-dump on the north side of Quezon City, a part of the megalopolis Manila (Power 1). It begins as a ravine in the 1970s but as people dump more and more trash in it, it is filled in and begins growing into a mountain of trash (Power 1). Almost thirty years later in 2000, the trash “[is] piled up to a 70-degree-angle” (Power 1). After a series of rainstorms in the summer of 2000, the mountain collapses on July 1st, killing 300 people or more (Merry, “The Payatas Dumpsite”). In addition, the dump produces toxic leachate that leaks out and contaminates water supplies (Power 4). Despite these dangers, many Filipinos live and work in the dump as scavengers, locally called “mangangalahigs” (Power 2). With the tragedy of the trash collapse, the government is forced to take action. The mayor of Quezon City Feliciano Belmonte announces that the local government plans to “take care of the people” and “keep the city clean” (“The Payatas Dumpsite”). In the years s...
The first two years of APEC, the members set up ten groups that would investigate opportunities for cooperation. The members of APEC meet annually since the beginning of the formation of APEC. In 1993 the heads of APEC met to constitute working groups to inquire about local cooperation in the areas of higher education, human resource development, and trade and investment. They also set up the Pacific Business Forum. The Pacific Business Forum was created to elevate immediate cooperation with privately owned businesses. Through many forums and meeting APEC agreed to implant a free-trade zone in the midst of their countries by the year 2020.

Stepping on Cupertino Center's grounds for the first time, I did not feel any sense of aloofness. The place suggests a very friendly atmosphere you don't really get when visiting any other schools. Being put up among the houses in the village of La Vista, Quezon City, Cupertino Center's location definitely serves its goal to become a home not only for the special children who are enrolled in their school, but also even to those who chose to devote their lives helping these precious kids. The serenity of the place brought about by nature and the cheerful aura that the place is clouded with make you forget about the suburban city in which the place is actually located in. With its walls and posts painted in green and yellow, the buildings that make up the school mimic its environment. Different species and sizes of trees can be seen pl...
