Importance Of Petrol Cars

846 Words2 Pages

In a fast-paced developmental world, technology is being more implemented in our daily life. Internal combustion engines are seen as harmful to the environment and thus, manufactures are adding electric cars to their fleet. There are 125000 electric cars in the United Kingdom but the figures for petrol cars are still over solid 35 million. Despite the steady increase in numbers of green cars, petrol cars still exist in the 21st century and will still be on the roads for a number of financial, efficiency, and political factors. One of the most crucial factors for sticking to gasoline powered cars is the cost. Environmental friendly cars that run on electricity are still in rocket prices compared to their petrol alternatives. A 2018 electric …show more content…

With the fast-paced advancement in the production of electric vehicles, electricity is still new on the playing field. As a result, charging technology has yet to be improved. Refueling a petrol car takes nearly 3 minutes where charging an electric Tesla with the latest and most expensive charging technology takes an hour. Efficiency of petrol cars pertains to their high energy density (amount of energy reserved in a system per unit volume). The energy density of a current lithium-ion battery is nowhere near to that of the gasoline. “The battery can produce 250 Wh(watt-hour)/kg. However, gasoline can produce up to 12000Wh/kg” (Paine,2017). Electric cars have to be accompanied with heavy energy storage devices and isolation for the batteries from any outer effects. Therefore, petrol cars weigh more less and they benefit from that weight loss by better handling and range. “Researchers at the University of St. Andrews in Fife, UK have demonstrated an early form of an improved, high-power electrochemical cell – the lithium-air battery. Such a device could theoretically provide some four to ten times the energy density per weight that conventional lithium-ion batteries do” (Ashley,2017). Until that time though, it is better to stick to the much cheaper petrol car that goes over 500 miles with
