1. Utilizes in its practice a unique and well-defined body of knowledge that is intellectual in nature and describes its phenomena of concern.
I rated this area a 10.
In nursing practice, I utilize my intellectual knowledge to develop a plan of care for my patient’s. I collect data, perform assessments. Implement and carry out a plan of care and evaluate their progress or lack of. AN example would be total joint patient’s progression through assessing pain, mobility throughout their hospital stay.
According to Koernig Blais and Hayes (2016), “As a profession, nursing continues to develop a well defined body of knowledge and expertise” (p. 20).
2. Imposes on its members the life-long obligation to remain current.
I rated this area a 10.
The nursing profession imposes on us to remain current with standards, licenses and certifications as long as we are practicing nursing. A few examples would be, maintain …show more content…

“The nursing profession requires integrity of its members, that is, a nurse is expected to do what’s considered right regardless of the personal cost” (p.21).
8. Has a clear standard of educational preparation for entry into practice.
I rated this area a 10.
I believe nurses have direct standards of clinical training and education to prepare them to practice nursing. I feel the education received along with clinical training prepare the nurse for entry into nursing jobs. Employers also have extensive orientation for new nurses. We must pass a licensing exam to ensure we have sufficient knowledge to become Registered Nurses. Experience is the critical element for successful nursing. It is a foundation built in a step progression from novice to an expert nurse.
According to Koernig Blais and Hayes (2016), “It is within the educational program that the nurse develops, clarifies, and internalizes professional values. Professional values are preferred standards that guide behavior and are used for evaluating behavior”
