As students grow up they learn certain skills, whether they are social or physical skills, spelling skills, writing skills, anything that will help them grow as a person. In Physical Education we focus more on the Humanistic and Social Development also known as the interactive and intrapersonal skills, in addition to the motor and physical development that are often always seen to be a focus in PE. Humanistic and Social Development help students grow and become better in different ways but they also relate to each other in many ways. Social Development is learning the skills that allow children to relate to others and to contribute in positive ways to family, school, and the community. Students need to understand the value, knowledge, and skills that allow them to do these things. This model has different levels in which you then move up the scale as you completely satisfy the one you are working on. You begin with physiological needs, which are breathing, food, water, sleep, sex, and more. Once you satisfy the needs of that level you move up to safety where your needs include security of the body, employment, resources, family, health and property. From there is the middle level, love/belonging, which many people hope to start out at; this includes friendship, family, and sexual intimacy. Before you get to the last level on the Hierarchy of Needs you must pass the esteem level that includes self-esteem, confidence, achievement, respect of others, and respect by others. The final level is self-actualization, this is the level everyone hopes to get to, and it includes morality, creativity, spontaneity, problem solving, lack of prejudice, and the acceptance of facts.
