Critical thinking in nursing process is a process by which the nurse with critical spirit can obtain, organize, and analyze information, apply it with experience in a real scenario and also make informed decisions (Potter & Perry).Critical thinking and its importance has been examined carefully through the years by many scholars, because it is an essential element in the nursing practice (Edwards,2007).Explanation and description from critical thinking scholars have coincided, making stress upon the three elements mentioned above. We observe that implementing and making decisions are the cornerstones of critical thinking in life in general and in the nursing practice in particular. Hence, critical thinking entails the thinking process, not just problem solving or decision making. We will study the importance of these elements.
When we speak of critical thinking we are referring to the possibility of obtaining, organizing and analyzing certain information about a fact or situation. If we focus on this first aspect of critical thinking, we realize its the importance of it, since human beings, throughout their lives, learn to relate to the world through their curiosity to know and understand their surroundings. The same applies to nursing practice, thus allowing the nurse to have an analytical open mind that through which objective and subjective data can be obtained from patients, their family and their environment, so helping to form a clear idea of target health that can focus on patient care .It is very important for this collection of patient data to be specific, realistic and objective. Is necessary that the nurse recognize what is relevant or not, what is normal or not, so she/he can identify several conclusions and at the end will choose the most feasible for the patient. Being original means constantly assessed, corrected, and improved in all aspects. Critical thinking allows the nurse makes the right decision.
In conclusion, nursing practice in critical thinking guarantees success in the health service and its importance lies on this. It is vital that nurses develop their skills to keep the organization during the nursing process. Additionally, nurses need to use their evidence-based research, analyze and diagnose exactly. To be good nurses need to develop highly developed thinking skills that lead us to deliver higher quality health care.
