Career Development Plan Part 1 The goal of a nurse educator is to teach future nurses comprehensive knowledge and skills for clinical practice (Callen, Smith, Joyce, Lutz, Brown-Schott & Block, 2013, p. 583). I have been a proponent of learning since my family instilled the value of an education at an early age. I graduated with a Bachelor’s degree in Physical Therapy in the 1990s. With limited career opportunities, I worked in pharmaceutical sales, tutorial and customer service before pursuing nursing as a second degree. I was given the opportunity to enter into nursing education in 2006. I found it both challenging and rewarding. I plan to continue to work as a nursing instructor for the next several years. Most of the lectures and presentations are uploaded into an online course shell that requires the faculty to have intermediate computer skills on Moodle, Citrix, UltiPro and different software provided by textbook publishers. It is also necessary to teach the students to access these software and course shells so the instructors need to be proficient enough to show the students how to. As technology advances, it is the responsibility of the instructors to keep up with the changes. One should strive to gain as many skills as they need during the course of their careers.
Safety
Safety is vital in the clinical and academic field. Continuous training through fire drills, in-service training on Campus Violence and Emergency protocols are done every year. It is also important to be aware of the policies and procedures of the campus to ensure that you are following the correct way to do things. The most important thing to do is to anticipate ways that could pose a safety risk to students or patients. The simple act of diffusing some tension and petty quarrels can prevent more serious problems later on.
