Health of Immigrants vs. United States There is a growth in the number of both voluntary and forced displacement of population around the world. Their impact as a result of the outflow and inflow of population is attracting a considerable interest at regional, national and sub-national levels. Migration can be defined as the movement across the international border or within the country that involves social changes (include citation). Population movements tend to increase the vulnerability of migrants in relation to the health risk and exposure to potential hazards and greater stress, arising from displacement and insertion into the new environments. Recent migrants are often faced with poverty, marginalization and limited access to social and health services, especially in the early stages of adapting to the new environment. Migration, when triggered by disaster or conflict, food insecurity, disease outbreak, or climate change and other environmental hazards is closely linked with the disruption of the health status. The basic needs of migrants in the area of health are not always adequately met, thus raising concerns about equity, social cohesion and inclusiveness. There is also a correlated link between the population movements and the spread of diseases. For all of the above reasons, migrants’ health is becoming an increasingly important public health issue. The lack of social interaction also has a negative impact on the health of migrants. Social networks, such as friends and relatives, help migrants to adapt to a new environment and culture. Social networks form the social capital that can be used by migrants to obtain the financial capital. All these factors aggravate the already difficult social and psychological pattern of the lives of the refugees. Another health issue is that the second generation of migrants has a greater risk for developing health problems than the first generation. This phenomenon is explained by the long-term consequences of migration. Immigrants are defined as people who permanently move to a forgiven country from their origin country. Immigrants can move for the purposes of seeking better living, better education, or in order to avoid any sort of issues in their origin country. Despite the reasoning behind the decision of the movement, an immigrant will be affected by the change of culture, way of life, social system and community. The process of the movement effects each individual differently depending on their, age, gender and their level of connection to their past culture. Having that said, the younger the age of the individual, the more venerable and easily they become to changing their way of life in order to feel a part of a community. Immigration is the movement from one location to another to live there permanently. This topic has been usually been associated with sociology to better explain how it affects people, cultures and societies. Sociology has three forms of thinking that are used to describe and analyze this topic. There are three forms of thinking that are used to tell and describe immigration to society; structural functionalist, symbolic interactionist, and conflict theory. Each of these theories uses different forms of thinking and rationality to describe and explain socio topics.
Challenges Faced by Immigrants The changing environments throughout the ages have caused the movement of thousands of families out of their homelands. Whether forced to make such decisions or doing so by their own desires, all immigrants have had to survive the physical and psychological challenges encountered along the way.
