Immigrants Deserve an Easier Path to Citizenship Immigration has been becoming a massively growing issue in today's times as more immigrants are finding homes in the Land of Opportunity; despite having the freedom of opportunity rapidly slipping away as many politicians propose radical immigration reform. The main issue surrounding immigration—disregarding people's personal biases and opinions about the immigrants themselves—is the financial issue that immigration presents to the current economy. The latter is a very common false perception; being here in the country illegally does not necessarily mean it carries with it a federal crime. Of the 11.7 million illegal immigrants, roughly 40% enter the country with some sort of visa that permits living here legally, usually, work visas ("Immigrant population"). The problem with this group of immigrants is that they fail to renew their visa and continue to live in the country without renewed documentation, hardly a federal crime. Deportation of this particular group of immigrants would only require an immense amount of taxpayer money, and would not be a particularly effective way of solving the immigration problem. The next category of illegal immigrants that make up another nearly 40% percent of the total, are immigrants that have come over without any legal means whatsoever ("Immigrant population"). While it is indeed a violation of federal law, the crime itself is only considered a misdemeanor in most courts. The money and resources it takes to deport such immigrants back to their home country is exponentially larger than what it would be if measures were taken to charge them with the offense here in the United States, and force them to take measures to gain citizenship. The next category, that makes up roughly 20% of all illegal immigrants are children that came to the United States under the will of their parents ("Immigrant Population"). He later goes on to say, "What those illegal immigrants need and deserve is a strong and unequivocal message, leave on your own or we can and will deport you, period." First and foremost, if all illegal immigrants were to self-deport or be deported tomorrow, it is estimated that the cumulative GDP would suffer a massive loss of about $2.6 Trillion dollars over the next decade ("Facts on Immigration"). So again, the act of deporting all illegal immigrants is not and never will be fiscally possible or reasonable, period. Currently there are two major bills that are going through the approval process of Congress, they both hope to reshape and redefine our immigration laws for the better. Both bills are very interesting, and at first glance, look like they may be able present a major overhaul for the citizenship process in a positive way. But with a closer look at both bills, it is fairly obvious that they both may need to seek revisions before put into
