Iago is a character that has a racist outlook and hatred for Othello it is shown many times throughout the play. Iago's character portrays to be the jealous type and causes many issues in Othello's marriage with Desdemona. Iago shows this when speaking to Brabantio, Iago states, “'Even now, now, very now, an old black ram. Is tupping your white ewe.” (Shakespeare, page 6). In this quote Iago is comparing Othello to a black Ram and Desdemona to a white ewe. Iago is using animals as a comparison to this couple which is racist because he uses the words white and black to describe them. Iago shows his racist outlook and his hatred for Othello when he states “If she be black, and thereto have a wit, she’ll find a white that shall her blacknessfit.”
