Nurses play an important role in the healthcare organization, it is one of the biggest health care workforce. Dramatic changes in the healthcare system and the practice of nursing have occurred during the past few decades as a result of changing population, demographic expanded access to health care, cost contained efforts, rapid technology and advances, increase complexity of client, health care needs and a shift from acute care to community- based care. These changes have transformed nursing into a routine process information from multiple sources to make complex clinical judgment in planning, managing, delivering and evaluations the health care of their clients (Houston, 2013). IOM is an independent non-government organization that gives advice to people in decision-making positions, its mission is to “serve as advisors to the nation to improve health”. The opinions of the IOM are highly regarded and carry weight in legislative decisions. The report outlines major categories of change needed in nursing to meet the health care needs of the nations (Institute of Medicine, 2010). IOM sees that the empowerment that they gave to nursing profession as a key to realizing the objectives put forth by the recent health care reform legislations. IOM made a good impacted on nursing profession as follows:
• Nurses should practice to the full extent of their education and training
• Nurses should achieve higher level of education and training through and improved education system that promotes seamless academic progression
• Nurses should be full partners with physicians and other healthcare professionals in redesigning or transforming healthcare in the United States

Gone are the days when nurses have been viewed by policy-makers, administrators and the public as workers who carry out tax that have been delegated by physicians, and not as people who can make their decisions independently. In addition to leadership training the IOM calls for membership programs, to accomplish this transformation IOM calls for “style of leadership that involves working with others as full partners in a context of mutual respect and collaboration”. This style of leadership promotes patient’s outcome fewer medication errors and greater staff
