I wish to study Events Management at university as I am studying HNC Events at college and have learned how complex and intricate this subject is through the units I have studied and the practical work I have completed. As an SAEM major, attending live events in sports, arts, or entertainment, your mindset becomes more in tune with the process of how the event is run. Whether it's the productions crew, ushers, coach, or main act, you become more aware of the tasks each individual has in running the show/event. As many average spectators are in attendance for the main event, we know there is much more behind it with many crucial jobs to make the event a success.
I would like to attend The University of Tennessee, Knoxville because I have heard that it is a great school, I think that Tennessee is a gorgeous place, and because UT has phenomenal school spirit.
The first of the two careers to be analysed is an event manager, sometimes also called event organisers or event planners. Prospects UK (2012) describes event managers as being the ones responsible for event production from its conception, right through to its completion. This can include the initial planning and organisation of the event, the development of a management plan to assist in the preparation (Gascoyne Development Commission, n.d.), and the coordination of all aspects of the event on the day its being held (Prospects UK 2012). This career was chosen as I feel like I would enjoy the creative aspects of planning my own unique, memorable and enjoyable events.
Over this course of this semester, I have learned a tremendous amount of information about myself from the self-exploration series. The results of my PGI (Personal Globe Inventory) presented me with a couple of different career paths to explore. The first type of career that was brought up to my attention was an enterprising career. There were a number of enterprising careers, but the one that interested me the most was business management. I decided to choose the business management because I am majoring in Sustainability and my focus is in Economics. Our business was based on the importance of recycling and how we can improve and promote the issue in public. My team working skills were significantly enhanced, along with my ability to communicate and contribute my ideas to a team of people. Consequently I feel a much more able public speaker and willingly to take part in class debates and various school presentations. Which I feel will be important factors that will give me an advantage while being a chemical engineer. My A level studies have given me the grounding that I need to study chemical engineering and I aspire to have an impact on the environment and ensure sustainability for future generations through the study of chemical engineering.

Education has always been a primary concern for my parents, who taught me that if I need to succeed in life, I have to be educated. Following their guide, I have always valued and tried to get the most of any educational opportunity I have had. Having grown up in a business family, I have always been interested in focusing my career in the business field. My Mother and Father own their own company, and they are constantly talking about business, which has inspired me to follow their path. When my parents retire, they want me to carry on their legacy. For this reason, I have decided to pursue my studies in the field of Business and Leadership at Marylhurst University. As an Event Assistant my main responsibility is to provide administrative support and customer service for events in lower mainland, national and international locations. This entails, continuously to be in contact with various alumni from different demographics and be the point of contact. My position also necessitates me to work in conjunction with 5 events managers who have different working styles. Working on multiple events at the same time with similar deadlines there is grave need to develop prioritizing skills and change them at a moment’s notice if need arises.

If nineteenth century was an era of the Industrial revolution in Europe, I would say that computer and Information Technology have domineered since the twentieth century. The world today is a void without computers, be it healthcare, commerce or any other field, the industry won’t thrive without Information Technology and Computer Science. This ever-growing field of technology has aroused interest in me since my childhood.
This class was the first opportunity I had to learn about the event planning industry. I knew that it took a lot to put together an event, but I had never fully realized how much actually goes into it. As a hospitality major, event planning is a necessary skill to have even though I do not plan to become an event planner. If I had the option to start working in this industry tomorrow, there would be several things that would either help or hinder me.
