Greek philosopher and scientist Aristotle once said, “Education is an ornament in prosperity and a refuge in adversity.” This notion is absolutely correct, as I have my education to thank for bringing me through hardships and providing me with so many opportunities to grow professionally as well as morally. Education has always been there to pull me up, when I had nothing else working in my life. I’ve learned how to fight for what I want and not allow anything to get in the way of that. I rose from nothing and now I’m able to humbly share my triumph over unlikely success and where my determination comes from. In this essay, you will hear the story of my life through all of the hardships that I over came to become the person I am today, as well as my plans for the future and why I am exceptional for a chance to win this scholarship.
Throughout the last 19 years of my life, I’ve been through so much hardship. I’ve been a victim of brutal domestic violence most at the hands of my own father as I lived in poverty with my mother and brothers. After completing college and hopefully passing my CPA exam, I would like to work at a Hunt Oil Company or a company similar to it. After interning here for over a year, I have been able to experience meaningful relationships with employees at every level. They see my potential as they have hired twice and most importantly they give back to our community. I would like to still be a volunteer Crisis Counselor in my free time because I want to encourage and show people that their current circumstances are not forever and that recovery is possible if you work for it.
