The book I Am Malala How One Girl Stood Up for Education and Changed the World, is about a young girl, born is 1997, named Malala, who stands up for education and was later shot by the Taliban. Malala, a Pashtun, was from Mingora, Swat Valley, Pakistan, her religion was moderate Muslim. This Memoir was dedicated to those children who have no access to education, and to those who stand up for their rights. In this book three significant themes are religion, courage and perseverance, and fame, power, the importance of role models. These themes are revealed through Malala's actions.
One important theme that shows in I Am Malala, is religion. Religion emerges throughout this book when the Taliban, a Muslim extremist group, comes and takes over a region call Swat. A second way this theme comes into place is the war between moderate Muslims and extreme Muslims. The extreme muslims did not want girls to attend school. On the other hand, moderate Muslims where fine with woman to go to school and learn. A third way religion appears in this book is when Malala's mother takes off her headscarf when she sees the helicopter with Malala in it, after Malala was shot (Yousafzai 158).
