JOYCE OWUSU 1. A nurse is providing discharge education to new parents regarding proper installation and use of infant car seats. What information should the nurse include? - The car seat must be place in rear facing in the rear seat of the vehicle and secured using the safety belt. - The shoulder harnesses are placed in the slots at or below the level of the infant’s shoulders. - The harness should be snug and the retainer clip placed at the level of the infant’s armpits. 2. According to Erickson, what stage of psychosocial development is an infant in? How is this stage defined? - Trust vs. Mistrust. This stage occurs between birth and approximately 18 months of age. During this stage, the infant is uncertain about the world in which they live. According to …show more content…
- It must be use with caution in renal impairment patients. 7. Identify three (3) clinical manifestations of hydrocephalus in an infant. - High-pitched cry - Bulging fontanels & widening cranial suture lines - Increased head circumference 8. The nurse is caring for a child with epiglottitis. What are three (3) expected findings during the assessment of this client? List three (3) nursing interventions the nurse will be expected to carry out. - Abnormal, high-pitched sound when breathing in (stridor), difficult and painful swallowing, and drooling. - Broad-spectrum antibiotic, more-targeted antibiotic, and having a breathing tube placed into the windpipe through the nose or mouth (intubation) 9. The nurse is teaching the student nurse about the interventions to carry out for the infant who has Gastroesophageal Reflux (GER). What nursing interventions should be mentioned and why? Depends on the severity of the symptoms, the nurse should advise the parent to; -Offer small, frequent
Sensorimotor stage (birth – 2 years old) – Children begin to make sense of the world around them based on their interaction with their physical environment. Reality begins to be defined.
It is difficult to check on your child while it is covered in the infant car seat without removing the Velcro latch.
Aside from the firm decision, being familiar of the concept in paediatrics and its set-up must also be considered. Previous exposures to paediatric wards as well as acute care units can sharpen the skills of a nurse practitioner. Most part of the work involves taking into consideration the growth and development of children and how the nurse should manage to intervene when alterations occur such as hospitalization, procedures and operations to the child. This external factor does not only influence the child...
Now that everything is safe and secure you must deploy the rope down to the ground. Before you throw the rope you must yell “rope” to let anyone below know what is coming down. Next put on your harness, and the person who is not going to repel down the rope should go ahead and go down to where you plan on repelling down to. They are going to go down there to be your safety if you start to fall.
The first stage is infancy and it covers the first year of life. The issue in this stage is trust versus mistrust. This is a stage where an infant is completely dependent on their caregiver. Trust is built by the actions of the caregiver taking care of the child by feeding, bathing, changing diapers, showing affection, etc. If a child is not well taken care of then that child will not learn to trust others. New parents struggle with this stage a lot because of the loss of freedom and the diversion of some attention from spouse to newborn child. It is known as the oral-sensory stage because infants use their mouth to explore their new world. Parents must meet the
The steps in the nursing process relate to evidence based practice in many ways. During the diagnostic, and assessment steps of the nursing process important clinical questions are considered and the critical review of existing knowledge is completed. Evidence based practice also begins with identification of the problem and knowing the clinical problem by asking questions, in relation to the nursing process. These clinical questions are asked in a concise, accurate, and organized way which allows for clear answers. Once all the specific questions are identified, the second step is to search for evidence by an extensive research of the best information to answer the question. The third step in the nursing process is to develop a plan of care. In evidence-based nursing practice, the plan of care is established upon completion of a critical research of what is known and not known about the specific problem. Next in the traditional nursing process, the nurse implemen...
Erick Erickson came up with a theory of psychosocial development which is basically concerned with how personality and behavior is influenced after a child is born mostly in childhood all the way to adulthood. He came up with eight stages in the socialization process which he named “the eight stages of a man” and each stage he regarded it as “psychosocial crisis” according to an article by Child Development Institute, LLC (2010).
Erikson’s first stage of psychosocial development occurs between birth and one year of age and is the most fundamental stage in life. Piaget’s theory is similar his first stage (sensorimotor) happens between birth and two years of age. They both believe that infants start to get an understanding of life during their first two years of life. In these stages infants began to learn to trust and mistrust. Piaget and Erikson first stages can impact the infant's life for a lifetime. Both Theorists express their stages in a similar manner, Cognitive development also takes place with language being understood in the first few years of life. Psychosocial development is when security and safety at younger ages lead to a better view on the surroundings of a
middle of paper ... ... The priority for this patient was to establish that she was fully aware of what the procedure involved and the possible risks and complications. I feel that the pre-assessment form used within the unit is far too fundamental, if elements of the roper et al activities of daily living were to be incorporated this would help in achieving a much more in-depth holistic nursing assessment enabling for the best quality and level of care to be given to all patients arriving in the unit. Whilst I feel a full nursing assessment is not fully necessary for a day case unit, as previously stated I feel that the communication element is an excellent way of ensuring a better holistic approach is achieved, it will also help to achieve better documentation and communication between all staff members.
On my second clinical day I was able to embody the educator role, and be an active participant in health teaching with my first mother and baby assignment. The mother I was caring for gave birth in the early hours of the morning, and had a successful feed following shortly after. Unfortunately after this during later feeds baby did not seem interested with the breast. As she voiced her frustration after several attempts I found myself empathizing for her because I could tell she was wondering why? I reassured her and listened to her concerns. Although she remained calm I could see the day was beginning to wear on her after another unsuccessful attempt at breastfeeding. For the following evening feed I decided to be present and provide assistance as needed. My co-assigned nurse assisted her while I watched the beginning of the feed, and a successful latch with visua...
In Erickson’s psychosocial development theory this was developed way after Piaget but he has eight different stages in development in a person life. Basically these stage help us understand how children deal with different thing these stages help determine the outcome for the child. Im going to give overview of the different stages. One stage is trust vs mistrust this happen to children that are under one, this is stage where kids are so depended on the

The infancy stage of development begins with the child is born, and continues until about eighteen months. During this stage a lot of growth takes place, especially physical growth. This stage of development coincides with Erikson’s stage of trust vs. mistrust.
