Generally, employers are looking for Hunters and Trappers who have a No degree. They also prefer someone who is good in Critical Thinking and Active Listening. 1 common question that we always get is what major or degree do I need to become a hunter and trapper or what courses do I need to take.We did a survey to ask other Hunters and Trappers what did they major in college or university and here are the most popular majors that came up. The majority of Hunters and Trappers typically enter the occupation with a High School Diploma. There isn’t any specific educational requirement for this career.You don’t really need any previous work-related skill, knowledge or experience to be a hunter and trapper. Have you ever seen yourself working as Game Wardens? I honestly don’t see myself working as Game Wardens. If you really don’t know what Game Wardens are and do well let me tell you a little about them. Game wardens are great. It’s a nice work; you can work as Federal or State Warden. Both are great; I prefer Federal. Why? Because you’re still working with the government but to me is like they work better as a family instead of just everyone pretending to like each other and having to work together. Long hunters were men who crossed into Native American hunting grounds in Tennessee to hunt. The expeditions would take the men away from their homes and families for months at a time, hence the term “long hunters.” They were very crafty and skilled, poaching game from the Native Americans, diminishing their herds. Besides hunting on sacred grounds in order to provide settlers with illegally attained pelts and fur, long hunters brought back stories of the lands and Native Americans to the West. If more people went to college, and less went the vocational route, jobs will take a momentous hit. Today, companies will not even touch an application that does not include a Bachelor’s Degree; even if the Bachelor’s Degree has nothing to do with the job being applied for. Attention is not given to whether the hopeful applicant qualifies for the job; all that matters is that the applicant has a Bachelor’s degree. Murray best sums up the American job market when he says, “Employers do not value what the student learned, just that the student has a degree” (Murray). Hunting is a very expensive sport to get into. From guns, to tree stands, to even hunting clothes, hunting can be costly. On average, hunters spend $1896.00 per year on hunting (LaBarbera 1). Equipment and expenditures alone in 2001 grossed $24,708,970,000 (for all types of hunting) and $10,673,990,535 of that was of deer hunting (LaBarbera 2). These expenditures then “ripple” through the economy generating three times more impact for the U.S. economy. For many communities, hunting dollars keep them afloat. This money made can also be pumped back into funding wildlife and conservation foundations. In good times and bad, hunters set their sights on spending more time in the fields and forests. Even when economic recession and uncertainty over homeland security have the nation and the economy recoiling, hunters continue to aim their leisure time and money toward shooting sports activities. For example, since 1991, when the nation was mired in a similar recession and war, retail sales have grown nearly 17% (adjusted for inflation). Many just do not realize the positive impacts generated by hunters. A recent report released by the Congressional Sportsmen’s Foundation highlights that Americans spend more on hunting equipment and dogs than they do for ski equipment. Contrary to popular belief, a college education can help with any job, regardless of whether the job is within a certain major or not. Hunting can be considered the practice of trapping or killing animals, or pursuing them with the intention of either trapping or killing them. Although this practice was a vital part of the survival of humans 100,000 years ago, it is now considered a violent form of recreation that a majority of hunters do not require for subsistence (National Research Council, 1995). This is because it has contributed heavily to the endangerment, extinction and extirpation of animal species globally. Less than 5% of the population which accounts to 13.7 million people in the United States hunts animals, yet hunting is allowed in numerous national forests, state parks, wildlife refuges and other public lands (U.S. Fish and Wildfire Service, 2012). Humans have been hunting practically since the beginning of time. Take a moment to look back at our country’s founding fathers and Native Americans. People in that era hunted as a means of survival. We all possess the skills of stalking prey. It’s in our blood. Hunting is automatically instilled in us being at the top of the food chain. Although looking back into history, one can also find that some hunting has diminished animal populations practically to the verge of extinction. However these facts have not gone unnoticed. ...nters want a guide that is local and knows the land and animals so hunters are willing to spend a lot of money in order to have a successful hunting trip. Many local town governments and cities rely on the taxes from hunting to stay alive. There are even states that rely on hunting for their tourism and tax revenue such as Kansas and Montana. Both of these states have less tourism than most other states and need hunting to generate money. “The total impact that year (2005) was nearly $66.8 million from visitors only in Montana for hunting only” (Burwell 1). These states generate more money off of each out of state hunting and fishing license then they do on in state licenses giving them more revenue from those than other licenses. Without hunters many states and towns could not survive or generate enough taxes for them to properly run and keep up with modern times.
To fully and completely understand, we should know the true definition of “hunting”. Hunting is the act of chasing and pursuing game in order to have food and survive. Of course nowadays hunting for survival is not necessary but it is for population control to better the environment. Individuals who has a college level education are employed at higher rates and with greater consistency. Those people with less than a high school degree are more than three times as likely to be unemployed compared to a bachelor degree recipients.
Fishing has been used for ages for many things like food, sport, and just for amusement of the chase; because of this, many different techniques have been developed from the centuries fishing been constructed. Also fishing can be a purpose for life just like what Henry David Thoreau said “Many men go fishing all of their lives without knowing that it is not fish they are after”. Everyone has issues in their life and fishing can help with it in many forms. Over all the years love of fishing has grown and, many different types have emerged such as fly-fishing, saltwater, and freshwater fishing. Also there are many different styles of fishing to the different types from baits to the rod. Because, of the constant demand and love for fishing, salt water fishing has become a growing industry along the coast of America, and saltwater fishing provide a recreational sport for many, but it can require boat access and the correct license and fishing equipment.
Companies are usually looking for skills which go beyond scholastic degrees, accreditations and licenses. Education may make you eligible to apply for employment but you still need to showcase a mix of skills to be successful at your job. This mix of skills is called employability skills (key competencies or soft skills). These are the basic skills essential for attaining, keeping, and doing well on your chosen job: (1) basic academic skills: reading, writing, math, oral communication, listening; (2) critical thinking skills: learning, thinking creatively, reasoning, decision making, problem solving, organizing, planning; and (3) personal attributes: professionalism, dependable/reliable/responsible, loyal and dedicated, initiative, positive attitude, willingness to learn, negotiating and persuading, honesty and integrity, self-confidence, stress tolerance, time management, excellent team player.
