After reading your story, I had a greater understanding of the importance of family, especially a good one. I used to take my caring and supportive family for granted, but your story showed me how fortunate I am. Your family was unusually distant, between a father that barely ever spoke to you and a brother that you didn’t interact with unless he was hurting you. From “each member of our family is now so busy that we don’t even eat meals together anymore” to “Mom and Dad are at each other's throats arguing about all of this,” you vividly display the dysfunctional family dynamics between you, Erik, and your parents.
