Recommended: Value of humor in daily life

Side-splitting, muscles aching and tears running down cheeks all the while gasping for air; this is laughter. Everyone around the world experiences this sensation, it is one of the characteristics that makes us human. In order for laughter to occur, there must first be something humorous. If only it were that simple. Just like humans, humor is not that black and white. Laughter is a result of humor, but it may not be the only one. What else, besides laughter, can result from humor? In terms of superheroes, humor rescues humanity and brings out happiness. However, just as easily as it rescues, humor causes destruction.
Laughter invokes feelings of love. For example, when sitting with a teenage crush, a joke can bring forth a wave of happiness and love. With the passing of a loved one, a bittersweet moment of any funeral is when folks gather around to share funny stories about the person. This time spent reflecting on the purpose allows the people to see past the despair of losing someone they love and remember what great times they shared together. Part of humor, and life is a, “...harmony that naturally existed between heaven and earth from the very beginning [that] could be found by anyone at anytime.” (Hoff, 4) . This harmony can be found in more than heaven and earth. It can be found through humor and tears at a funeral, or happiness in sadness. Being able to enjoy the happy times spent together allows the people to survive the sadness.
