This essay focuses on the problems that people turn to experience due to issues as the meaning of behaviour and the nature of healthy growth. The two humanist theories by C. Rogers and A. Maslow aimed to address the issues in order to motivate people to be able to realise that they do have the potential to create the impact in their environment.
The person-centred (self- concept) is the theory by C. Rogers who was one of the significant founders of the people’s potential movement. According to Rogers (1951), a self-concept is a combination of beliefs about one’s own nature, unique qualities, and typical behaviour. The theory by Rogers specifically is about motivation to the people.
The self-concept is about people, it focuses on how people can be influenced in order to be motivated. It deals with people’s perceptions and it is also concerned with beliefs such as the beauty, commitment, and the way people observe themselves. Rogers (1953) said that people are aware of their self-concept, because it exists in their conscious.
Majority of people turn to change their experience just to promote the favoured self-concept whereby a person will think that he/she is perfect but the actions will then oppose the perfection. Rogers called the distance between reality and self-concept “incongruence” (degree of disparity between self-concept and actual experience).
Rogers wanted to know how childhood experiences promote congruence or incongruence between self-concept and experience. Rogers (1951) said that people have a strong need for affection, love, and acceptance from other people. If a parent accept a child only when a child behaves in a particular manner the child is likely to block out experience that are unacceptable.

The hierarchy of needs by Maslow it is arranged in a pyramid and Maslow (1943) stated that people are motivated to achieve certain needs. The uppermost of the hierarchy is to be self-actualised and it starts from the bottom which is about psychological. In order for one to be self-actualised he/she must live healthy, the health has to be good.
The two humanists namely Maslow and Rogers addressed issues affecting people’s health so in conclusion I say that they achieved their aims they addressed the problems that people faced in their lives and they also have created formulas such as motivation to keep people’s behaviour positive.
