One of the things that aerospace engineers do is design the equipment used to explore the galaxy, such as the Hubble telescope. The Hubble telescope is a telescope that orbits the earth and captures images from galaxies away, and then sends these photos to NASA for research ("Hubble Essentials"). It is a groundbreaking invention that has made it easier for astronomers and scientists to understand space. Overall, the U.S Space Program benefits greatly from the research and technology that aerospace engineers create. The reason the Hubble telescope is so revolutionary is because it is the first telescope in the world to be sent to space (“Hubble Essentials”). Before the Hubble, telescopes had not been able to capture space with such accuracy and precision—the atmosphere was in the way. Atmospheric distortion was the cause of many high functioning telescopes to suddenly cease to work because pockets of air in the atmosphere distorted the telescope images, and even aerospace engineers could not find a solution. …show more content…

In an official interview, Nancy Roman, a retired scientist for NASA, spoke of the hardships involved with the making of the telescope, and how she never would have believed the Hubble would last more than 15 years, as many astronomers were against the building of the telescope. Most figured it was more sensible to create multiple copies of the reliable Palomar telescope than create one risky telescope that was to be orbited into space. However, as time passed, the demand for clearer, more precise images of space was needed, and the Hubble telescope was
