Psychology is the study of the human mind and human behavior. It can be used to how people think and why they do the things they do. It can explain some behaviors of people in the workplace. Psychology can explain people’s performance in a job, why people do not like their job, and how people are hired into jobs. Psychology will help a person better understand a person’s performance while working. To determine how well one might work, one has to take in consideration several factors. Some of these factors are organizational culture, leadership, and the people they work with. Organizational culture includes beliefs about the organization one works at and it influences how someone works in an organization by setting expectations for workers. Leadership involves getting the people of an organization to best perform their duties. With a good leader one would work better but with a bad leader they would not be able to work as well. Coworkers can also affect the performance of worker. They can distract workers, slow down other workers if they do not do their jobs, and they can improve a worker or production if they are a good worker. Employees are often dissatisfied with their job because there is something about the job they do not like. Some reasons employees might like their job are their coworkers, work conditions, pay, benefits, bad leadership, boredom, and lack of acknowledgement for one’s work. A dissatisfied worker may leave work early or come to work late, still equipment or use it without permission, quitting, transferring to another department within the organization, and retiring. These things will hurt an organization and might cause problems with other workers in an organization.
