Dove is a personal care brand owned by Unilever. This company offers hair products, skin care, and deodorant. This company was introduced in 1955 and is sold all around the world. Dove’s racial transformation ad was released in October 2017, this ad was a 30 second T.V. commercial. The target audience in this ad was black women. This ad represented the strategies ethos, pathos, and logos in the ad.
The first strategy I noticed in this dove ad was pathos. The first person to appear in this dove commercial was a black woman. She was the target of the commercial. In this video the black woman turn’s white after using the dove body wash. This video caused a huge controversy because in society a white woman’s skin is held at a superior level and Black women are considered the underdogs. In this video the black woman’s skin was represented as “dirty”. Dove had to remove the ad because it caused a lot of controversy and people started to boycott their products. …show more content…

In this video the company’s motto “Everybody is beautiful” wasn’t represented well. The company made it seem as white women are superior to black women. Also, the model featured in this ad wasn’t aware of the final commercial. She was made to believe that the all women are beautiful, and she was proud to represent the black community. The original 30 second ad featured women of all sizes, races, and versions. They women featured in this ad all had to answer the same question “if your skin were a wash label what it would say?” So, I think dove purposely did this and they should have known what the outcome would be especially with today’s
