Lifesaving Helmets
“Horses have their own thoughts, feelings and fears,” said Katelyn Keelen a riding lesson instructor and trainer at All Starr Stables as well as Scooter’s Place, a nonprofit therapeutic riding program for children with special needs. As the sport of riding horses became more popular, the less people started to wear helmets and the more riding accidents started to occur, resulting in more people being left with lifelong injuries or even fatal incidents. Not wearing a helmet while riding a horse is dangerous; all riders should be required to wear one. When riding horses it is very important to wear a helmet because, wearing a helmet when riding could have prevented many serious brain injuries. Additionally, because of not wearing a helmet many expert riders have died or

In 2009, 14,466 emergencies for brain injuries alone for horse riders most could have not occurred if the rider was wearing a helmet, according to the American Association of Neurological Surgeons. This illustrates just how by simply wearing a helmet many riders lives can be saved and their injuries can be prevented altogether. So many injuries can be prevented with helmets, yet many rider chose not to wear them, helmets need to be worn when riding. Miss Lara DeWees father, Mr. Steve DeWees stated, “You can survive broken bones, recover from an amputation, but a head injury…that would take a miracle.” If Miss Lara DeWees was wearing a helmet the outcome of her fall could have been changed, and she could have been saved from head injuries. Many people claim that they can't wear a helmet in the show ring without being penalized. From the judge's point of view, it might be a disrespect of tradition, but there is no point in valuing fashion and tradition over safety. Helmets need to be worn when riding no matter what skill level or horse, it will still save

How well do helmets prevent concussions from occurring and prevent the development of chronic traumatic encephalopathy (CTE)?
("N.F.L. Players’ Union Weighs the Benefits and the Pitfalls of Helmet Sensors. This technology helps prevent a player with a concussion that he doesn’t know about from continuing to play during that game and cause more damage to his head that can last forever. Another good advancement is helmets that have a design that uses energy-managing materials and a facemask attachment system that disperses energy from frontal impacts. This helps prevent the head from taking the main part of the blow and disperses the energy to lessen the likelihood of becoming seriously injured from a hit. These types of helmets have a certain shelf life meaning you can only use them for so many years before they have to be replaced, this is beneficial so that the equipment stays up to the new standards of safety for the players as well as prevents them from becoming stressed over the years and breaking.
One statistic that I’ve heard, but have been unable to find everywhere, is that a helmet will help save you a concussion attributable to influences up to thirteen mph. Over 13 mph, a shock can nevertheless arise.
Helmets drastically reduce the tremendous number of deaths caused by head injuries as well as reducing the severity of any ...
About two months ago, I went to pick up my 8-year-old niece from school. It being the last day of the term, they had been allowed to come to school in home clothes and make up. The first thing I noted was she had adorned on trendy fitting jeans and a t-shirt that had the drawing of Dora the Explorer in glitter and sequins. She also spotted bright red lipstick and some purplish mascara. She looked quite good but as we drove towards their home, I noted that she had difficulties in drinking water from her water bottle. I noticed that any time she wanted to take a sip; she tilted her head backwards, held the bottle at an angle to the mouth and poured the water right in. She then would swallow and put her lips in a pout so as to
Football helmets are the most important pieces of equipment and have been revolutionized since football started. According to Forthofer (21012), when football was a new sport in the 1860s to 1896, helmets were not used. The first helmets that were used were made of mole skin or leather and were very uncomfortable and hot (Forthofer, 2012). In situations where the player gets injured due to faulty equipment gear, the NFL league should be held fully responsible.
American football is full of exciting competition, but do we realize the danger! Helmet safety in football remains an immense problem as the sport accounts for the highest incidence of concussions. Since leather football helmets, the technology for safer helmets has improved drastically and continue to improve. The development of newly designed helmets and technology has lowered the risk of head injuries for players. Furthermore, improvements in helmet testing methods have led to better understanding head injuries and the protectiveness of the helmet. In respect, football helmet safety still remains a challenge, such as a necessity of a proper categorization system to rank helmets and regulations to improve helmet safety. Regardless, standards and regulations attempt to address helmet safety through government intervention and a proper measuring system for football helmets. Despite the cultural perception of football, measures are taken to ensure safety, such as the reforms and education with regards to playing safer football. I intend to address the technological advances and regulation of football towards the discussion of helmet safety. Therefore the aggresivity in football’s culture should embrace stronger helmet standards and regulation that are promoted through improved testing methods and innovations because of the need to prevent further dangerous head injuries, especially concussions.
Anytime anyone ride in a car or any motor vehicle wear a seat belt , if anyone happen to get in a wreck then anyone could get in a serious concussion. If anyone play a contact sport the coach should tell you how to play safely. Th coach of your team should be educated on how to treat a concussion. Wearing a seat belt could prevent serious injuries (“Prevention”) Participating in high risk sports like football, hockey, soccer, or any other contact sport the risk for getting a concussion is higher.
While the use of helmets does aid in protecting players from brain trauma, they also increase the risky behavior of players; this is called risk compensation. Risk compensation is the adjustment of individual behavior, responding to the perceived changes in risk (TheFreeDictionary.com). Most people that wear helmets have a pre-conceived idea that, because they have a helmet on, they can possess more daring behaviors and be fine. The helmet is basically thought of as a tool to hit harder, or improve performance in today’s culture. Adventure writer and pilot, Lane Wallace (2011) accurately understands the dangers of helmets being used incorrectly, and how they are used as weapons instead of safety. Wallace also theorizes like the NFL, a change in football culture and of viewpoints towards helmets would vastly reduce trauma to the
One of the greatest controversies that is spreading throughout high schools in the United States is parents and their children against the enforcement of their school’s uniform policy. More schools have been adopting uniform policies within the past decade. Rules contained in the policy that are implemented range from wearing certain types of tops (shirts) in specified colors to students being required to tuck in their shirts. In the past, uniforms were exclusively for students who attended private schools because they were “well-off”, but now uniforms are being seen more frequently in public schools on students of all economic levels. Having gone through a school system that considered adopting a uniform policy, I would have to press against the issue of mandated uniforms, because it is simply un-American and unjust.
Competing on a horse is the only sport that actually requires you to have a medical armband in the event of a fall, no other sport requires that, which goes to show how dangerous our sport
Whether it’s a concussions or a hematoma, athletes should be wearing the proper gear. This gear will help prevent further injuries and may save their life. For anything facial related such as eye laserations, hyphema, or any oral injury, protective face guards should be used. Face masks/guards and mouth guards will help protect the face. To protect from head injuries, proper helmets should be worn.
Let us tell you that those who keep wearing helmets for hours, their hair starts to fall rapidly, many times this problem
Have you ever considered why students should wear a school uniform? For a long time, scholars have debated worldwide, whether students should wear a school uniform or not. After a lot of research, I can evidently see that people still have diverse opinions about this subject as some people think school uniform is essential, some are just fine with its existence, and some think it is useless.
