Many people believe that terrorism is the biggest crisis facing us in the modern world. Consequently, legislation such as the Patriot Acts has been passed and the United States Department of Homeland Security has been formed to counteract terrorism. While these methods have been, in part, effective in fighting terrorism, there is still more the United States can do to solve the problem and prevent terrorist attacks.
If I was president, the first thing I would do to fight terrorism would be making Guantanamo Bay a worse place for prisoners to be so that they would be discouraged from committing acts of terror. The United States should not cave to the prisoner's demands for things such as exercise equipment not made in the USA. They should not have exercise equipment at all as they can do pushups, jumping jacks, and sit-ups in their cells without the US having to cave to their demands. Jail should not be a fun place to be and nor should the prisoners at Guantanamo Bay be telling the USA what to do. Additionally, the prisoners should not have access to DVDs, PlayStations, and Nintendos. Once again, prison should not be a fun place to go.

Before getting a visa, one’s background would be thoroughly examined. When a person was in the USA on a visa, they would be watched and the location of the visa holder would be known. If this was done, the visa holder would not be able to stay illegally. When the visa expired, the visa holder would have to go back to their home country. On top of this, when a visa was given, it would not be extended without a clear and reasonable purpose. If visas were restricted, this would fight terror as potential foreign terror threats would be under surveillance and thoroughly vetted before entering the United States. In turn, terrorist acts, such as that on Halloween, from those in the United States on visas would be eliminated or at least reduced as the terrorist was in America on a diversity
Since things are not processed by papers anymore but rather through a computer the process should be faster. Privacy would be provided, where a private room would be given for an immigrant's family to stay while there papers are being processed. As well as a sense of freedom where they could go outside whenever they want, even the yard would be guarded but it wouldn't feel much as a prison. Activities for the immigrants would be provided to keep their minds occupied. Profiling wouldn't occur to a certain person based on their look but based on the evidence provided from the background
On Sep 11, 2001, al Qaeda threatened the United States (U.S.) national security, and we are still combating terrorism. Since that time, al Qaeda and other extremist groups have also been endangering some of the U.S. allies. Realizing the magnitude of this international fight, the U.S. needs help from its partners to counter violence worldwide.
After the September the 11th attacks on the world trade center, countries around the globe thought it was necessary to take extra precautions when dealing with terrorists. The United States hence forth brought terrorist that were being help to Guantanamo bay. Guantanamo bay hold terrorist that are responsible for the September 11th attacks. These terrorist are kept at Guantanamo in order to prevent any further attacks from happening with in the United States. The prisoners that are help there are subdued to a form of interrogation known as water boarding. The process consists of a cloth being placed over the detainees face and the interrogator proceeds to pour water over the detainees face. This gives the feeling that you are drowning, but really you re panicking because you think you are drowning. Many people
...no way to tell what really should be done in such a scenario. Should we change the way things are and work in hopes of a better world and society? Or should we continue with our current ways and wish for the best? This being said there are things that do need to change. A government in which they do not even follow their own rules is one that is sure to fail and lose faith in the millions under them. Another thing that needs to change regardless is the torturing, beating, and overall abuse of prisoners; there is a major difference between the cruel treatment and harshness towards prisoners and just flat out torturing and abusing beyond the point of reason and ethics. The act of physically and mentally depriving someone to the point of death or wanting to die is unacceptable no matter what the circumstance and only drives the world further apart from manifest destiny.
Terrorism represents a continuing threat to the United States. It is the most significant threat to our national security. Terrorist attacks have definitely left many concerns about the possibilities of future incidents of terrorism in the United States. Since the events of September 11, 2011, Americans and much of the world are afraid. Americans are at war with terrorism and no longer feel comfortable. A part of this unease feeling has to do with cyber terrorism.
Currently, the immigration process of America is quite flawed, requiring years of waiting and a noteworthy surge of money. Back in the early history of the United States, President Thomas Jefferson saw the benefits of large-scale immigration; as it offered cheap labor, provided technology for renovation, and connections to trade at the time (Martin). Many years and many events have come to pass since then, including the terrorist attack towards the Twin Towers of Manhattan, New York...
In the 1990s, global terrorism spread into the United States. After many domestic terrorist attacks such as the 1993 attack on the World Trade Center and the 1995 bombing of Oklahoma City’s Federal Building, Congress passed the Illegal Immigration Reform and Immigrant Responsibility Act in 1996. This Act addressed the need to enhance the enforcement and patrolling process at America’s borders. It also informed the citizens that the government will be investigating and monitoring visa applications and
The arrival of immigrants to the United States is often associated with fear. Immigrants are vulnerable to attacks if they are cast as threats to the way of American life. A deeper look into immigration policies reveals that immigrant restrictions are seated in racialized notions. Immigrants before the founding of the nation came for the opportunities of a better life. The immigrants who would continue to come thereafter came for much the same reasons. But government policies demonstrate repeated attempts to block the immigration of undesirable immigrant communities.
Homeland security was developed by the United States government to protect the country from external aggression, reduce the likelihood of terrorist attacks and manage the damage that occurs in case of attacks. To this end, the government set up and reconstituted numerous agencies to aid in the fight against terrorism in the United States. The United States Department of Justice and Department of Homeland Security constitute the most prominent departments under the United States law to champion the fight against any attacks by extremist groups. Federal, State and local law enforcement agencies, as well as the United States’ military also have a role to play in homeland security. With the increasing cases of attacks and acts of aggression towards the United States, the government sought to strengthen the resolve to curb any attacks aimed at killing or maiming the citizens or destruction of government institutions and installations. In the wake of the September 11 attacks, it was apparent that stringent measures were needed to prevent attacks on American soil and protect the citizens of the country. This paper examines the duties; responsibility and intelligence methods used by the military, federal, State and local law enforcement agencies, as well as homeland security agencies in the fight against terrorism, with the aim of drawing similarities and differences.
... Jessica. “Should We Keep Them Out?” Time Oct. 2001.). If America would have tightened its security to begin with there would not be this problem. All because of the lack of the U.S. immigration policy, America is left only with the memories of those who lost their live on September eleventh.
The question of how should we reduce the egregious overcrowding in the U.S. state and federal prison systems is very complex. It would most certainly be multifaceted. Some of my ideas on how to reduce the prison population would include but would not be limited to the following.
The article explains how terrorism effects the United States and the rise of terrorism in the last forty years. This article includes the data behind the death of the people from terrorist attacks that happened in the United States and people who were affected by terrorism internationally. It gives information on how Osama Bin Laden told the United States that he was going to attack through the Al-Qaeda terror network. The first attack that Osama Bin Laden made a big impact on the USA was 9/11; after 9/11 the government created new laws that help prevent terrorist attacks on USA soil. The amount of terrorist attacks has risen and fallen over the years. For example, “The number of attacks decreased until reaching the lowest point in 40 years
Another issue I’d be concerned with would be the overall success of the Saudi based program. In 2010, a report listed that at least 11 graduates of the Saudi system returned to terrorism, with one of them becoming a commander for the Al-Qaeda network (2010). These are all issues that I could foresee with the intended efforts to create such a system. As far as how to overcome these issues, I’d have to start with a viable way to identify a would-be terrorist which seems to be extremely difficult. I suppose this could be done with screening questions in the prison system along with surveillance among the population. Equally important would be providing information to the public as to what indicators to look for in hopes of identifying would-be terrorists that they may find themselves in the company of. As far as prison goes, my
To prevent tragedies like 9/11 from taking its toll on the United States, terrorism needs to be thought about still to this day. One quote that proves this point is, “In 2001, the federal commission warned that terrorists could get weapons that could cause mass destruction. Congress needs to work on the integrated governmental structures to better the nation's security” (Augustine). The nation's security can help with the destruction of weapons that are dangerous to the U.S. This can cause more attacks like 9/11 and create a larger threat to the population.
The need to defend nation from terrorist attacks is a daily struggle. We have improved our security in airports, public and government building, sporting events and venues were large crowds are present. We have put protective measures in our theaters, schools, and places of worship. It doesn’t seem to be enough to add security personnel, metal detectors and body scanners. Terrorists still find ways to get passed the toughest security measures in place and cause mass casualties and destruction worldwide.
