(Oprah Winfrey) Following a dream is described as the biggest and hardest adventure, and if people work hard, they can reach their dreams. But is it really very wise to follow dream?People can take the first twenty years of life to chase dreams, however, life if limited, people need to have steady income and benefits. When a person reaches 30 years old, they need to exchange their search for a dream for a steady job.

Firstly, having a steady job can have stable income. In now’s society, money is one of the most important thing, especially for an adult. In average, an American family can spend 51,100 dollars a year, which include transportation, food, entertainment, education, housing, insurance, clothes and some others. And a thirty year-old person can earn 54,305 dollars a year. So if a person has a full-time job, he is able to afford the family’s expends. Having stable income can also provide people safety, because money is necessary for living. Doing one job constantly can improve a person’s ability. Because getting used to a job need time, and be a master of the job takes even more time. While doing the stable job, people can explore new things, new method and give more sophisticate ideas to keep challenge oneself. Doing a steady job can also provide working experiences, and it is like having an insurance for the future. Because the boss will know more about the person, and know what kind of job he is good at. Then the person can at least keep the job or even luckily, get a promotion. Because there are so many benefits of keeping a steady job, people should not follow the dream.
At the age of thirty, having a steady job is better than following a dream because there are limitations such as time and failures, and there are benefits of steady jobs. So before 30 years old, let us do crazy things for five more years, go to an amazing concert, having a trip at any time, having a close friend that can share anything with, be completely drunk once and having a crazy but futile relationship. In conclusion, Santiago from The Alchemist by Paulo Coelho and James J. “ The Cinderella Man” Braddock from Cinderella Man directed by Ron Howard are two examples of determination and success in their personal legend, their destinies. I truely believe that the choices we make create our future. Our destiny is not set in stone, but it is out choice that make then into monuments.
In The Alchemist Paulo Coelho presents a character, Santiago, torn between following tradition and his Personal Legend. Santiago tries to live true to his Personal Legend, which is a path pursued by those who strive to fulfill their purpose in life. Yet throughout the novel tradition, a motif, presents itself as a roadblock holding Santiago back from reaching his dreams. Coelho juxtaposes tradition against Personal Legend to illustrate its purely individual nature and the necessity of the acceptance of change to reach one’s dreams and goals.

When reading the book Santiago travels to Egypt to get to the pyramids, but along his way he figures out his personal legend, and met two influential people. Throughout the story, two characters, the Alchemist and the Crystal Merchant, both influence and give their perspective of life to Santiago’s on his decisions on his personal legend. Setting goals and objectives for ourselves can give us a sense of direction in life. But the tides of time are unpredictable and things might not always turn out the way we planned them to be. Growing up, I knew I would finish high school at the age of eighteen, college at twenty-three and be married latest by the age of twenty- six. And of course I knew I was going to be a lawyer or let me put it this way; my parents wanted me to be a lawyer and they made sure my academic performance never declined.
