In The Outsiders, S.E Hinton is talking about people who do not fit in with society as much as others do. Cherry and Ponyboy are talking about how Johnny got beat up by the Socs just because he was a Greaser. Therefore, Ponyboy thinks that Socs and Greasers are two completely different kinds of people.
