In the philosophy of art, there are many concepts that are difficult to understand and individually interpret. In this essay, I will be analyzing and discussing the different types of irony, comparing and contrasting representationalism and hyperrealism, and providing my stance on whether we as human beings are anthropocentric.

Irony is a term we are familiar with because of previous English classes, but irony has its presence in philosophy as well. There are two types of ironies, situational and dramatic. Situational irony is when you expect something to occur in a way that you imagined it would, but the outcome differs. This concept is often confused with coincidences. With enlightened anthropocentrism, we owe the environment things that are based on what we owe to other humans. In simpler terms, humans take into consideration nature, however humans’ needs still preside over the needs of nature. In cynical anthropocentrism, since we tend to be very anthropocentric due to higher reason, we should not be anthropocentric (the hippie mentality). We as humans, are indeed anthropocentric because in our minds, the humans are at the center and over time, we adapt by eventually developing a relationship with nature and the ecosystem around us. This can be observed through history that nature has an intrinsic value to us. Two examples that will express my point is climate change and the drought we are currently experiencing. These problems are occurring because of human mistakes, keeping in mind, the perspective that regarding our interaction with nature, we are at the very center. As a result, we are somewhat forced to alter and change our outlook concerning nature and what it really means to us. With climate change, there is an interaction. We are releasing high amounts of carbon dioxide into the air and this affects the overall climate. Now, we know how valuable it is, to take care of nature and treat it as the living thing and entity it is. For the drought, excessive use of water is wasteful.
