How Is Boo Radley Courageous

Boo Radley is a squirrel eater. Boo Radley is one of the important characters in the book To Kill a Mockingbird written by Harper Lee. Boo’s real name is Arthur Radley. People call him Boo because they rarely see him and they do not understand him. That being said they came up with a way to explain his mysterious ways of living by making up stories about him. Despite what people say about him, he shows that he is kind, reclusive, and courageous.

First, he shows that he is kind. When Jem’s pants got caught on the fence of Boo’s place Boo went out and sewed them and folded them for him.”When I went back. they were folded across the fence… like they were expecting’ me”(Lee, 78). That shows that he is kind because he didn’t have to fold them and place them nicely. He could have left them, but out of the kindness of his heart he did it. When Boo carries Jem to get him help. “His arms like steel. He slowly squeezed the breath out of me. I could not breathe. Suddenly, he was jerked backward and flung on the ground”(Lee 262) .That shows that he is courageous because he saved Jem and Scout and also got Jem some help. Also, he comes out of his house to help them. Boo does not really come out unless he needs to. Finally, he carries Jem to safety. It takes a true man to carry someone you hardly know and carry them to safety. That proves that Boo is courageous.

Despite what people say about him, he shows that he is kind, reclusive, and courageous. He is kind by folding Jem’s pants. He is reclusive by staying inside his house. He is also courageous by saving Jem and Scout. Boo is a important person in To Kill a Mockingbird written by Harper Lee. The reason he is, is because without him Jem wouldn’t have his pants and Jem and Scout would be dead and Bob Ewell would be alive.
